To feel the future is to feel the fall into time.

Like a kind of transcendental whiplash, the past leans in to furnish the present with a set of concrete forms and withering terms, whilst the halo of possibility on the crown of the moment makes speculation a speed-test for computing what comes next. As a vessel for abstract dynamics, the human organism knows what it is to be dizzy, to feel vertigo as a matter of being contained by our experience of space and time.

For the fourth instalment in Tresor's 'Kern' mix series, DJ Stingray presents a device for decoding time in all directions, a sonic prism that refracts our senses into auxiliary components of a total future-rush.

With a far-reaching selection that has been worked into his own unique form, DJ Stingray wraps our vertigo around a gritty pneumatic bump with high-velocity swing. His mixing style, prepared for hostile engagements as it is, throttles techno into counter-gravity forces. Wading through a specialised cross-section of Detroit's own dance-floor contagions as well as the contaminated feedback signals from across the global aqua plains, the mix can be summed up in just one word: hectic.

Raw, caustic, synthetic rhythm-code pumps frenzy itself through a cascading geothermal fog. Never giving away the cryptographic keys, DJ Stingray works you harder than your heart, adapting your biology to a fractal timeline of viscous systems.

Discovery, or uncovering, has to do with what already exists actually or virtually; it is therefore certain to happen sooner or later with enough sweat in the club. And as Kern Volume 4 attests to, DJ Stingray has the access codes and the stealth sense to make a place of a space, and to let it fall into time.

Accompanying the mix is a set of two records. The leading manoeuvre comes from the collaborative efforts of DJ Stingray and Heinrich Mueller under the name NRSB-11. Seven more pieces of the covert assault make up the release.

‘New Atlantis’, @Efdemin aka Phillip Sollmann's 4th album, oscillates between fast, kaleidoscopic techno, multilayered drones and acoustic instrumentation, fusing for the first time Sollmann’s deep dancefloor productions as Efdemin with his sound art and avant-garde music projects. The latter include 2017’s Harry Partch-inspired ‘Monophonie’ performance and 2018’s ‘Panama / Suez’ EP with Oren Ambarchi and Konrad Sprenger.

Sollmann took inspiration for ‘New Atlantis’ from Francis Bacon’s unfinished 17th century novel of the same name, which describes a fictional island devoted to social progress through the synthesis of art, science, technology and fashion. 

Out now: “New Atlantis”, the epic, psychedelic title track off of Efdemin’s upcoming album out February 15 via Ostgut Ton. Across 15 minutes, Efdemin’s experimental spirit is in full swing, with morphing drones/chords generated by a mix of Efdemin’s hurdy-gurdy and drum machines, Konrad Sprenger’s MIDI-controlled Stratocaster, Joachim Schütz’s electric guitar and Nika Son’s synthesizer – recorded live during the quartet’s Tony Conrad tribute concert in Hamburg.

This must be one of the heaviest remix packages in a long time. A year after the release of Tom Trago's 'Iris' album we now have versions from no less than KiNK, Linkwood AND Larry Heard. All three hit the deep spots...err... TIP!

Larry Heard kicks off this set with his Fingers signature sound, turning the 'What You Do' into a deep and emotional piece. Yet it is sturdy enough to be a sensual (yes, sensual) late night warehouse mover. 

Linkwood reworks 'Being With You' and turns it up a notch, giving it a grandiose hi-tech soul spin which is reminiscent of older Carl Craig productions.. the ones we sorely miss these days, so kudos to Linkwood for bringing it back.

The frenzy starts with KiNK going ballistic on 'What You Do'. With his remix he pushes the track to madman level! For those who are not into lyricists, there is a dub mix too.

Booom! The third one in a very special series of shape picture discs on SOM. After the collaboration with Gerald Donald and Egyptian Lover on the last 2 volumes this time The Exaltics invites the one and only Helena Hauff. A1 starts with a short eerie intro and after that they come straight to the point with an UFO electro techno stomper with vocals from Helena. The flip side is floating around with alot of echoes and delays melodies and 303s, Helenas beautiful voice and this special old school feeling. Again the artwork is done by the amazing Godspill aka Mehdi Rouchiche. Every record comes with a download code. The outer contour of the picture is also the contour of the record and makes this release once again to a high collectable item..
