Next up in the Record Store Residency slot is Rise Records from Bristol, with a beautifully crafted mix by Situation spanning the genres. They told us;
‘‘This was mixed in three frenetic eye-straining sessions, after hours in my studio at home. It was fun but challenging to tie together the choices from 10 or 12 people (staff members) into a cohesive listening experience! As a store, Rise has a pretty broad range of music, genre-wise, and couple that with many of the staff members producing and releasing their own material, it made for a really interesting combination of sounds, and some pretty leftfield transitions. Hopefully people like it!’’

Paulo W works at Rise and is part of Situation Sounds, a collective of DJs, producers, editors and musicians, based in the Southwest. They are the founders of the label Situation, Situationism and have recently released an album called ‘’It's A Beautiful Life’’ on Our Records.

Solid Steel Radio Show 6/3/2015 Part 3 + 4 - Rise Records

The best slumber sessions do more than just let your mind wander, they take you away to another place entirely. This one does just that. Currently counting down the days until the release of Berlin collective Average Negative’s wondrous debut vinyl LP and art book, Shadow Mountain, we’re stoked to have a mix from the project’s Sydney-based synth-pop wizard Marco Vella. Slicker than your average snoozy slumber session, his mix sets your imagination free. It is a wild camping adventure that fast-forwards through time and lets you watch as day turns to night and lush green mountain forests alive with the sounds of panpipes and flutes turn into unexplored moonlit lands littered with cicadas. Things take a turn for the industrial as the daydreamers stumble on a secret government base and inadvertently involve themselves in some real sci-fi sounding shit before – as often happens in dreams – all danger melts away to the sounds of funky psychedelic bass-slapping. “I wanted to make a mix that showcased emerging artists from around the globe that have been an inspiration to my music and myself,” explains the Sydney producer. “I also added a few tracks from the archives that were a major influence to me at the time of recording Shadow Mountain. I hope this mix doesn’t bring on the z’s, but is ‘slumber’ enough to help you kick back and blow the froth off a couple.” Mission accomplished. Paul Marmota, Chilean producer and DJ settled in Mexico City combines elements and textures from rap, dancehall, techno, reggaeton, house & grime, meshed together with the chaos of his surrounding city. Marmota is a major piece and a pioneer of NAAFI. This year he has been playing in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and of course Chile and Mexico. Marmota mixed exclusively for i-D something of R&B from Central America with some Spanish versions of his favorite songs and more advanced electronic music. Enjoy!

We've been fans of Heart People since the moment we heard their first song and followed them into the Australian desert to film the video for their early, enchanting song Blue Star. In the time since the duo have released an EP and a couple of great videos, as they continue to work on their debut album. 

The band said of the mix, "It's a little taste of what’s ahead, it's meant for the beautiful days, nights and scenarios we all might find ourselves in over the coming months…. I’m feeling a bit thirsty — buy me a drink? it was mixed on a balmy Sydney mid week afternoon, we hope you enjoy."
