@slickshoota is the moniker of Oslo based Marius Mevold who is an offical member of Teklife and prominent member of the nightlife scene in Oslo with his hyped club night Ball Em Up, he's been putting out energetic and fast paced club hybrid music for alot of big labels most notably his releases on Mad Decent drawing inspiration from the juke/footwork scene, jungle etc.

After releasing New Zealand composer, drummer and producer Cory Champion’s acclaimed Clear Path Ensemble jazz album at the start of 2020, we’re proud to bookend the project with a new digital EP of remixes of songs off the album by Kush Jones, Christoph El Truento, AceMo, Glenn Astro, Daniel Hayles, and Champion under his Borrowed CS house and techno alias.

Where the Clear Path Ensemble album was a vivid ode to psychedelia, spiritual jazz, planetary rhythms and celestial oddities, these remixes turn his cosmic compositions into suped-up starcraft. Glen Astro and Kush Jones give ‘Jerry’s Funk’ a series of electro, dub techno and footwork re-rubs. Christoph El Truento and Borrowed CS both reimagine ‘Drip’ for the orbital nightclubs of the future. Mongo Skato rebuilds ‘Future Fatigue’ to a pounding pulse, and AceMo takes ‘Panorama Actual Spectral’ to Saturn and back. Rounding things out Daniel Hayles meditates on ‘Inner Space’ through sparse-but-emotive piano figures.

If you’ve already spent some time on the Clear Path Ensemble mothership, hearing how these considerable talents have reframed Champion’s jazz pieces is a real joy. And if not, start here on the dancefloor, before making your way back into the lounge bar later on.

#255: ALT SOUL | FUTURE FLAVA | BLAK MUSIK | MAGZ FM

MIMS is extremely excited to premiere the raw blistering-brass-filled title track from 'Blind Fury', the forthcoming album by Glaswegian “Doom-Jazz” outfit, AKU! on Bristol's Worm Discs.

Drawing on influences from bands such as Melt Yourself Down, Young Fathers & Fela Kuti, and wider still from the worlds of noise, punk & jazz, AKU! are rapidly carving a niche for themselves as one of the UK’s most undefinable “jazz” groups. 

In 2019 they were nominated for “Best Band” at the Scottish Jazz Awards and have enjoyed support from Rebecca Vasmant on her Worldwide FM show. Moreover, they have performed at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival and shared stages with legendary UK jazz acts such as Melt Yourself Down, Seed Ensemble & Maisha. This year, the group’s bandleader Harry Weir, has been nominated for the “Rising Star Award” at the Scottish Jazz Awards.

'Blind Fury' is released on November 6th on Bristol's Worm Discs. The newly minted label was founded by the promoters Worm Disco Club and launched with the MIMS "Crucial Material" nominated compilation, 'New Horizons: A Bristol Jazz Sound'.
