CEM’s unique brand of emotive hysteria was forged in Herrensauna’s hedonistic Berlin furnace in the last few years, and as one of the party’s two core members, he has been at the heart of the operations since its inception. With the party attracting more and more attention for its critical contribution to Berlin’s queer community, as well as their raw italo-metal aesthetic, the opportunity came to move into Tresor, where it has cemented its place as a unique addition to Berlin’s nocturnal topography. CEM’s role in all this is twofold—firstly, as curator of the party’s unique mix of frenetic DJs and industrial-edged live performances; and secondly, as one of the resident DJs. The sheer pace of Herrensauna’s preferred grade of techno is offset by his enigmatic presence and selection. It’s a crucial edge of the party, and it’s rightfully brought CEM to the world’s attention.

MCMLXXXV is perhaps best known as a founding member of Herrensauna - the beloved queer party originating in Berlin - but the influence of his curational work resonates much further afield, encompassing the spheres of music, art and fashion with a sincere appreciation of subcultural movements and their associated aesthetics.
His DJ sets celebrate a countercultural approach to electronic music, drawing upon an intense, seductive fusion of charged rhythmic tension and obscure sonic imagery. With a comprehensive knowledge of genres ranging from EBM and electro to hard trance and industrial, his ability to weave seemingly disparate references together is the result of years spent dedicated to the underground, in all its grit and glamour.

Herrensauna reflects the need for a queer-led techno event in a city where underground and mainstream sit tensely alongside each other, and gentrification threatens the vast network of cultural spaces the city calls its own. Despite its name - a tongue-in-cheek reference to the clandestine culture of gay men’s saunas - it is the sense of community at the parties, which have now travelled the globe, that lend to their ever growing influence across the queer diaspora.

Upcoming highlights include showcases at Dekmantel Festival, Sonar 2022, as well as the release of the second V/A EP on Herrensaunas own Label featuring Slikback, Isabella, Crystallmess and more.

Driven to share the same bliss he experienced in dark and delirious underground spaces, In Verruf brings freedom and ecstasy to the dance floor. He is defined by his profound respect for the liberation that raving brings and his determination to protect a culture of revelry that has existed for thousands of years. 

With a name that can be loosely translated as “in disgrace”, In Verruf confronts the dark reputation that the techno scene is notorious for and wreaks havoc in the club with his distinctively bold and scorching sound, that has only become more potent since his move to Berlin. 

Signed by R-Label Group in 2019, he joined the ranks of their anarchic movement, bringing a cutting edge to dance floors. His first release, featuring hit “Too Much DMT” was a raging success. With production skills comfortably under his belt, In Verruf is now evolving into his identity as a DJ and offers up this poignant and heady mix for XXL.

To kick off the year, I’m excited to share my set recorded in August 2024 for the incredible Unfold party at @foldldn!

From the moment I stepped into the club, I was instantly embraced by its electric and welcoming vibe. The venue itself is mind-blowing, and the sound system brought the music to life in a way that was unreal.

What really made the night special was the inclusive, beautiful queer energy throughout the space. It was a true safe haven, where everyone could fully express themselves. Such a cool evening! ❤️ 

Hope you enjoy the flow of this set as much as I did playing it!
