Earlier today Mt. Wolf announced their split. Having recently released Midnight Shallows, their effortlessly ethereal single, it seems a shame to say the least. Looking onwards and upwards, to the future and their dreams, here's a mix to remember Steve, Al, Bassi and Kate by. As they drift away peacefully to a soundtrack hand-selected for that purpose exactly, let us remember the good times. Goodnight Mt. Wolf. Sleep tight.

Bassi on his dreams:
"I have recently been having some weird dreams, and some pretty outlandish nightmares. Here's one example: I was standing at a train station in Amsterdam and two old men were standing next to me, sweating profusely. A lady resembling a witch, the kind you'd see in a Tim Burton film, approached and told them they shouldn't be there. She promptly touched both of their heads and water started gushing from their faces and hands, their life pouring out of them. Two piles of clothes and two puddles were all that was left. 

Bassi on his mix:
"A lot of my dreams revolve around space and travelling to other planets (perhaps influenced by a mild obsession with the content of books such as 'A Brief History of Time'.) For this mix I included a track from the 'Sunshine' soundtrack, one of my favourite Danny Boyle films. I love John Murphy's soundtracks - he and Underworld prove to be a pretty dreamy force in this film, perfectly encapsulating the mood of the film's slightly ridiculous premise: floating through space on a mission to save the world by firing a nuclear payload into the centre of the sun to reignite it. The film's soundtrack ebbs and flows between an introspective, contemplative etherealness, and the dark moments that prelude the nightmare that ensues. Quite representative of my dreams then..."

Out 12th May, the second in the Archipelago Remixes EP series brings more stunning new versions of tracks from Hidden Orchestra’s second album, ‘Archipelago’. Established and rising stars - Dam Mantle, Mungo’s Hi Fi, Floex, submerse and KRTS – work their magic on producer and band-leader Joe Acheson’s original productions, across two 10” records in a hand-stamped and numbered sleeve, limited to 500 units worldwide.

Opening the first 10” is “Seven Hunters (Dam Mantle Mix)”, which brings a noir-ish intensity to the original, a firm fan favourite. The Glasgow based Notown/Wichita signed producer re-programmes the original drums, creating a sense of space and suspense, and eliciting admiration from Acheson, whose heavily layered organic beats are an integral part of the stirring Hidden Orchestra sound, even requiring two kits in the live show: “it's the kind of way I treat drum recordings in my own work, so it's really nice to hear it done to my drum tracks”.

“Flight (Mungo's Hi Fi Remix)” sees an eagerly awaited hook-up with the Scottish crew, of whom Acheson has long been a fan, having partied at - and played on - Mungos’ legendary soundsystem at Knockengorroch Festival. Here they transform the intricate, folk-influenced “Flight” (which boasts almost a million soundcloud plays) for a bass-heavy dub dancefloor, while skilfully retaining snapshots of the original orchestration and atmosphere. 

“Disquiet (Floex Remix)” finds Floex returning the favour for a Hidden Orchestra mix of his own latest single. This charged, hypnotic version shows the dancier, more electronic side of the Czech clarinettist and producer’s work; twisting and heightening existing sounds, not least the heavenly harp solo, for an epic effect. Floex’s second official Hidden Orchestra remix, this adds to a growing list of joint ventures from these two like-minded creators. 

Two artists from Berlin’s Project Mooncircle label - London based submerse, and Brooklyn’s KRTS (the latter with a  bonus digital cut) – remix “Spoken”, each ramping up the strikingly percussive intro and spiralling down a different yet equally fascinating experimental electronic bass music path.

The acclaimed Luxembourg-based producer Victor Ferreira (aka Sun Glitters) returns with a new full-length album 'LO-FI-LO-VE' this fall, a follow-up to his 2017 retro-futuristic visual album It Will Be Forever.

Since arriving in 2011—at the crest of an era overflowing with blissful synth projects—Ferreira has earned a loyal following through consistent output, collaboration, worldwide tours, and festival appearances. With remixes for Purity Ring, Slow Magic, Blue Foundation and numerous others, and live support for the likes of Moderat, Son Lux and Gold Panda, Ferreira has quickly left a mark on the electronic music scene. Over the years, he has received glowing coverage from Dazed & Confused, BBC, Resident Advisor, Earmilk, XLR8R, Pitchfork, The Guardian, VICE, and a bevy of other trend setting music outlets.

'LO-FI-LO-VE' sees Ferreira taking another new creative step in his career as a music producer, video director, and graphic design artist. All three are essential to Sun Glitters’ raison d’être, and with 'LO-FI-LO-VE', Ferreira is once again pushing his artistic curiosity to the limit. Unbothered by the prospect of change, Ferreira urges his listeners and viewers to keep an open mind and shift focus. While It Will Be Forever offered a closer look into the remarkable and unremarkable everyday moments—along with a subtle existential message underneath the accompanying music and videos—'LO-FI-LO-VE' sends a heartfelt and emotive pulse directly into the soul. From start to finish, Ferreira manages to arouse those most human of emotions on his new album: joy, pain, remembering, forgetting, loss, and of course, love. The 13 tracks on 'LO-FI-LO-VE' are an exploration of these feelings; they are gentle and ethereal, but also focused and honest. There is no pretense here, especially that everything is always fine. It is not. As the track 6 title suggests, It’s Almost Perfectly — almost, but not quite. The soul’s journey is as bleak as it is beautiful, and for 47 minutes, 'LO-FI-LO-VE' attempts to capture that enigmatic energy.

"UK Allstars (Congo Natty meetys Benny Page - Radio Edit)" featuring Tenor Fly, Top Cat, General Levy, Tippa Irie, Sweetie Irie and Daddy Freddy, taken from the album "Jungle Revolution", to be released on Big Dada Recordings, 1 July 2013. 

Congo Natty aka Rebel MC has a career dating back to his early hit with Double Trouble, "Street Tuff," but is probably most respected as one of the pioneers of Jungle - perhaps the first uniquely UK-born bass music. 

"Jungle Revolution" features the whole of the extended Congo Natty family and was mixed with Adrian Sherwood. Clearly showing this Rasta's belief that Jungle is a re-boot of roots reggae for a new century, the record is full of blood and fire, the sternum-buzz of sub-bass, rapid fire drum breaks, sweet hooks, righteous anger and professions of religious fervour. It’s the kind of passionate, committed, raw and spiritual, beautiful record that doesn’t come along every day.  

To celebrate this release, we are streaming the track "UK Allstars," which features a who's who of British soundsystem culture. This is the first time ever that this line up have all appeared on one track together and so also marks a historic coming together of a scene which lies at the roots of so much of what we now take for granted in UK music, from dubstep to grime to drum & bass and beyond.
