Luminosity - is Part 1 of the Herzsprung-Russell Project, written and performed by David Broome and performed here by killer piano man, Amir Khosrowpour.

Program notes:

A Herzsprung-Russell diagram is a grid used to illustrate the relationship between temperature, size, mass, and luminosity in stars.  The Herzsprung-Russell Project is an ongoing work that investigates the dismantling of clusters over time.  The first installment of this project -- Luminosity -- deals with texture by contrasting limited spectrums of pitch over time.  These textures create their own luminescence based on the pitch material, registration and repetition within each constellation of notes.

Alice Harlow was born in Deerfield, MA in 1946. She worked primarily as a pastry chef and managed her own bakery, the Loaf and Ladle,  after moving with her family to Portsmouth, NH. Alice, a self taught painter and amateur chorister spent her time outside of the bakery, depicting in oil and pastel, scenes  of New England beach towns and pouring over the scores of Ludwig van Beethoven. This piece, written in 1978 is a combination of these two passions.
