Each sound is an independent and democratized event that contributes to the sound field that it creates. It is an interpretation of the psychological  resonance that follows a devastating personal event.  The horizontal musical environment tests the limitations of how long a cycle/phrase can be extended and remain unbroken. The vertical environment tests the limits of harmonic saturation. The dance-like quality of the rhythm projects the psychological dance that is engaged in order to assist in assuaging that resonance.
This work is in part the result of a series of all-interval tetrachords presented to me by my longtime friend, colleague, and extraordinary pianist/musician Dr. Anatoly Larkin.

Enduring The Unacceptable

This suite of five contrasting movements is my tribute to the following composers from the twentieth century: Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Prokofiev, Maurice Ravel, Paul Hindemith, Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, and George Rochberg. This group has deeply influenced my current contemporary classical oeuvre, and their representative melodic, harmonic, and compositional styles continue to be a source of endless invention and recapitulation. Whilst the twenty-first century has blurred many of the distinctive qualities of early twentieth century post-tonal composition, the re-enactment of transposing the modernistic originality of these titans of music is indeed necessary for discovering and developing one's own craft. Thus this exercise in compositional refinement is tantamount to similar acts of human endeavors such as reaching the summit of a great mountain or deciphering the architecture of a lost pyramid.

We're here to trace a line from electronic sound designers to classical composers, connecting them through the realms of ambient & cinematic music.

The Year of Music project began in May 2011  there has been a new musical creation posted each day.  Each new piece is created in real time.   The project is currently in its 11th year.  To date, there are close to 4000 "Daily Doses" in the project.

Richard’s live performances take audiences on a journey away from the busy world and into a calmer, less chaotic mental and emotional environment.  Drawing on his classical training, jazz and pop familiarity, Richard creates music thru an improvisational process.  His music has been called a soothing elixir for the soul, mind and body.

In 2016, composer/contemporary pianist Richard Carr moved to the Monterey Bay area of California after living in his native St. Louis area since 2005.  Richard spent 10 years working as a pianist in the night clubs, hotels and restaurants of the French Quarter of New Orleans prior to Hurricane Katrina.  He has released fourteen solo albums and one collaboration in the contemporary instrumental /new age genre.

Aware of the meditative quality of his music, Richard has been exploring the healing side of his music.  Working in the holistic community of St. Louis, Richard has developed the I AM Creative Sessions. These sessions are personal sessions in which Richard creates music for the client’s intention or focus.  In essence, he creates a soundtrack for the intention.
  
Currently Richard's electronic keyboard set-up includes Kurzweil PC2x and PC3x, Nord Stage 2-88,  StudioLogic Numa 88,and the Roland boutique synths JP-08 and JX-03.

I began classical piano lessons at age 6 and continued to age 16. Somewhere around age 14 I got into big band jazz and then the typical pop of the 70s/80s. After college I joined a men’s bible study and really got into old school hymns. Along the way I wrote many solo piano tunes (and some instrumental jazz as well). At this point in my life I am mostly interested in providing gentle, yet inspiring tunes for folks, whether it’s an old hymn or a newer sounding solo piano tune, my hope is that this music blesses and encourages you in these crazy end time days!

Shirley Ly is a self-taught contemporary classical music composer from Greenwich in London, United Kingdom, with Chinese and Vietnamese heritage. She began composing music when she was 15 and instantly fell in love with it, writing pieces whenever she feels inspired to do so for acoustic instruments. Her music has been played around half a million times across more than 100 countries around the world spanning six continents and is described to be a bridge between classical, romantic, and minimalist music with Eastern and jazz elements. She has performed her music across a variety of venues, including churches in London, and the Palace of Westminster, and will be performing in many more venues going forward.

She has produced two albums, Blossom (2021) and Impetus (2018), which feature 21 pieces composed for solo piano, duets, trios, and quartets. The pieces in the albums aim to capture her reflections on life experiences relating to nature (i.e., swallows' journeys to their nests, the seasons), living in London, dance, relationships with family and other loved ones, travel (i.e. to Berlin and Amsterdam), and dreams. Shirley plays the piano in all of her pieces.
   
She is currently working on her third and fourth albums, 9 Pieces About Cats and Paradise, to be released in 2023, where some of the pieces will be orchestral pieces. 9 Pieces About Cats consist of pieces inspired by her five mischievous cats in London. Paradise focuses on the beauty of the ocean and its diverse marine life. Through her experiences of swimming, diving, sailing, and surfing in the ocean, she has developed an intense admiration for the ocean. It is magnificent, refreshing, and incredibly humbling, and she hopes that her music can further emphasise its importance.  

​For Shirley, composing music helps with the discovery of self as it allows reflections to be expressed freely. She considers music to be very powerful as it can be shared, not only in a physical way where people can listen to it but in the sense that it evokes emotions, triggers memories, and makes the mind wander into an abyss of imagination. ​She sincerely hopes that her work shares in this sense with you.

These influences include bands, artists and composers such as Dream Theater, Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau (and trio), The Bad Plus, Frederic Chopin, Maurice Ravel, Franz Liszt, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Cecil Taylor, John Adams, Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Yes, and Rush. A native of Canada, Evan now lives in the USA.
