This is my version of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata Movement 3 in Deflemask using the YM2151+PCM arcade soundchip. I covered this for a mini-game I'm making called Torasu, which is an homage to Gyruss.
I had a lot of fun working on this, especially with the drums.

スターライト・トリナタ - Starlight Trinata [Moonlight Sonata Movement 3/Torasu Main BGM]

I had the honor of releasing perhaps the first Atari 2600 tune that is actually in tune - thanks to Aleksi Eeben and his new Star Bars music editor.

Star Bars is an 2 channel Atari 2600 music sequencer and player that runs on Commodore 64. It allows you to export your music as an executable ROM file that runs on an Atari 2600 emulator or on the actual console. 

This tune was recorded on VICE C64 emulator and in PAL mode of the player. This is how I heard it while making it, but it will sound a bit different on a real Atari 2600. I have no way of recording it and the emulators (like Stella) have problems with the sound emulation. Judging from various emulations, the NTSC version sounds better than the PAL version on the Atari 2600 (and vice versa on the C64).

This is an arranged version of the Final Fantasy 4 main theme.
Similar to the arrangement of FF8's Laguna, I made bold and extensive changes from the original composition.
I felt relieved when I switched to HalionSonic because Nexus strings didn't quite fit the sound I wanted.
The original theme from the game played while roaming around for a long time in the field, trying to obtain summoning items like Goblins and Cockatrices.
I listened to it quite extensively during that time, so I didn't reference the original composition while working on this arrangement.
I apologize if there are any mistakes.
I hope you enjoy listening to it.

Title / menu theme for the Halloween-themed GBA Microjam '23 microgame collection on Game Boy Advance.

Recorded (.WAV writer) from Schism Tracker since my Game Boy Advance SP doesn't have an audio output and the audio adapter generates too much background noise for recording.

It's a looping theme, so I gave it a couple of runs before fade out. A bit too loud recording but can't do anything about it anymore.

Pixel Power

This is the first MIDI cover I've made in fucking aaaaaaaages that uses Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth built into windows. The last time I made a MIDI in this manner was like... 6 years ago?

I wanted to see if I could use it to match certain sounds used in the original song with those from the MSGS synth. Well I say that, but I'm actually not using anything Microsoft-y in this cover, I'm instead using a soundfont based on MSGS run through a MIDI engine, in this case, Qsynth, a Qt frontend for FluidSynth that runs on Linux.

But I've stayed true to the limits of MSGS the whole way through, not using any Chorus or Reverb effects, everything you heard is as accurate to MSGS as can be. If I wanted to do an echo, I had to duplicate a channel, and copy/paste notes around, detune and change the volume of said notes, just as you would with the real thing. It also adds a bit of a chiptune-y charm to the creative process, and the sound itself. It was a bit of a pain trying to get everything where it needed to be, especially cuz I had to do a bunch of channel changes using MIDI CCs to get everything to fit. I very nearly ended up using all 16 channels, and even considered breaking the limit and using 32 instead, but I kept it to 15, and used MIDI CCs where necessary, as I said.

This also means that, considering I wanted to match the ADSR envelope on each of these sounds, and the sounds themselves have their own ADSR that can't be changed with CCs, I had to actually automate the volume knobs on each one myself, semi-manually. FL Studio makes it really really easy to work with MIDI automation events, and copy/pasting stuff is painless, I'll spare you the details right now, but I'll just say there's a good reason I use FL for MIDI stuff, it's got all the joys of an old-school MIDI sequencer with none of the frustration.

But yeah, that's about all I have to say about this one. Hope you enjoy listening as much as I did making it!

Kudasai

A remastered extended version of the song made for the 2006 Candela demo of the same name.

For once I actually have the old project files around, albeit not usable on my current workstation. I instead set up a WinXP VM with all my old plugins and DAW:s so I could export and reference the stuff I used. The MIDI notes and Kontakt instruments were easily exportable to FL Studio, and the only casualty was the Cubase-specific filter plugin Tonic which I had to replicate as well as I could. I also added back some parts that were cut out of the demo for time, and replaced some drums to improve the mix.

A shout-out must go to the z3ta+ VSTi and its great implementation of Hermode tuning. It's what makes the signature sound of this track possible, having such aggressive distorsion without all the mud that comes from equal-tempered tuning.

This track was made for a Sega Genesis using Sonar X2 DAW, FMDrive and SPSG VSTs, Sonic 3 PCM samples for drums. A Roland TR-08 was used to overdubs a hi-hat. The sound was recorded with a mix of an GenMDM device and emulators for further mixing. Apart from some panning (mainly PSG), everything is stock. No reverb, compression, FX or EQ used.
