3 QUESTIONS to MARTIN ROTH:

Q: Your mix goes back to the early 1990´s. Have you already been a DJ and producer in these early electronic days?

A: In the early 1990ies I was primarily the guy in the queue to Frankfurt’s electronic clubs & parties quite nervous as still under age hoping to slip in. I started producing in 1995 and had my first vinyl release in 1996 quickly followed by several other records which made it easier to built up a nice studio with a (few) samplers, synthesizers and recording gear in the following years. On the performing side I did Live-Acts first as I wasn’t the record collecting turntablist hanging in record stores every week in the first place. This changed in the early 2000’s when I was a bit tired of traveling every corner of the world with heavy gear and replaced that with the record box as DJing became a welcome foil to work in the studio with many benefits.

Q: As a DJ you´ve already seen most parts of the world. But where is your favorite spot to play?

A: As the world has so much to offer & every spot has it’s character it is really hard to pick a favorite and everybody knows I love India as well as the variety of the US as well as the fantastic people & food in South America but Europe of course too not to forget the other great Asian & African places. So as for me the traveling is still one of the best things in this job & life my favorite is always the exotic adventurous place in whatever time- or climate-zone but could be also around the corner here in Berlin.

Q: You´ve got a recent release on Submarine Vibes out - which other Martin Roth stuff can we expect this year?

A: I took a year of kinda paternity leave in the last 12 months so production-work fell a bit through and I was a bit quiet recently as I haven’t been really able to focus how I should. But I am back on track now since a few weeks, already finished my Anjunadeep09 contribution for this late summer, have several more plans with Maria (Marymoon) on the more Techno side, did two further nice collabs with close colleagues which will be out soon and will focus in addition a lot more on „An Analog Guy In A Digital World“. Touring will continue again through my favorite places in summer and autumn so check the agenda for dates.
