Quickie from us: "HOLY SHIT, FINALLY THIS FUCKING SONG IS OUT... This song was meant to be an Edit to promote a show we had at LIV in december. Initially we had Disclosure's 'Fire Starts to Burn' over the track and thought the drop was way to hot to use someone else's vocal. So we had this ridiculous idea to create a song around the concept of the #SELFIE. We really weren't sure if this was the most brilliant idea, or worst idea we ever had... So we had our home girl Alexis come over and within an hour we had 2 verses and the song done. At that point in time we thought it was hilarious but we were quite sure how it would be received, but seeing as we aren't pussbags and music is about experimenting and having fun, we put it out. 2 days later the song had 200k plays and about 1% negative feedback. So we went to Dim Mak who we always loved as a label and asked them if they were interested in it, if we went back in added a new verse and changed the drops. 6 Weeks later here we are, with an amazing Music Video compiled with all this great submitted #Selfies from Fans, Friends, DJS and Celebs. So we hope you all enjoy the tune as much as we did putting this whole project together. This is our first EVER Original release and it would mean the world to us if you all bought the song, shared the video and took #SELFIE video... ”

"Our guest mix this week comes from our friends up north in Sydney town, the ever impressive duo known as What So Not. Comprised of two already very established individuals, Emoh Instead and Flume, What So Not have been long favourites of us here at The Ripe and so it is with great pleasure we can present 30 minutes of infectiously danceable tunes hand picked and exclusively mixed by the lads.

First making big waves with their debut EP 7 Dollar Bill last year, What So Not have since grabbed the attention and admirations of names around the globe, such as Diplo, Boys Noize and Switch. Their tunes have gathered hundreds of thousands of soundcloud plays, been spun on BBC 1, released on Mad Decent and been official remixes for the Likes of Major Lazer, Van She and Parachute Youth. Not a bad resume for two dudes only making music together since 2010.

Now as they head around Australia as party of the triple j House Party National tour (due to hit Melbourne this Thursday), along with side acts like Nina Las Vegas, Beni, Deacon Rose and Flume, the boys have still managed to find the time to put together their Ripe Guest mix, comprising of their favourite tunes at the moment.

The 30 minute mix is jammed packed with What So Not’s signature 808 heavy, Tribal beats as well as a showcasing of tunes they’ve been playing recently across a range of names and genres such as Trap, House and Hip Hop. The massive, very danceable track selection is mixed through at a frantic pace, and shows just why What So Not’s live shows are gaining a reputation as very loose affairs.

An exciting fixture of Australia’s bubbling Hip-Hop scene, Melbourne’s own Eleji fka ARKS MC, has been putting in work more than most names in the country, clocking up hundreds of live shows and releasing close to a dozen projects over the last ten years.

Most recently putting together the cult-hit ‘The Alex Danger Tapes’ EP (2018) featuring Talakai, Dexter Seamus + more. However, after more-than cementing his name within Australia’s ever-evolving music scene, Eleji, now 24 years old, is gearing up to release his debut LP, ‘Pray Tomorrow Never Comes’ - a creative, open and honest full-length masterpiece that has been in the works for four years.
 
Having without a doubt paid his dues, supporting a plethora of live acts across the country including Bliss N Eso, Horrorshow, Illy, Thundamentals, Drapht, The Funkoars, Allday, Ivan Ooze and Dirty Dike (UK), Locksmith (US), and more. Eleji has spent the last 10 years preparing for what’s next, and with his debut album on the horizon, expect Eleji to become a legitimate headline act himself off the back of his magnetic charisma, energetic flows and honest lyricism.
 
‘Pray Tomorrow Never Comes’ began back in 2015 as a 21-year-old, after the St Kilda born emcee came off his national tour with legendary group Funkoars. Since then, Eleji has put every aspect of his career and life into crafting a conceptual, tell-all album that follows his life and mental development from ages 2-21.
 
If you thought a debut album was all that was in the pipeline for one of the hardest working creatives in the country, then you’re sorely mistaken. In 2018, Eleji launched his movement, label and DIY service: ‘HIEN MYTEE’, signing a collection of eclectic Australian and New-Zealand artists and curating every element of their release from the label’s headquarters. 
 
Despite having toured the country, selling out EP launches and supporting the biggest of Hip-Hop acts Australia has to offer, there is no doubt that 2019 and ‘Pray Tomorrow Never Comes’; stands as Eleji’s magnum opus.
