 Finally: with Bittersweet Marek Hemmann presents his second solo album on Freude am Tanzen. A big step after the duo-release Marian, and in his far-reaching pop sonic-lingo it's clear: a real Hemmann is what this is. Ten tracks, uncomplicated and progressive, following the Hemmann means of a sophisticated mix down and laconic, scant titles. The fine electronic sound is broken over and over through the inclusion of angry-pop synthies, played in with a seemingly strong, increasing train of machines.These warm, bass-filled sounds are the accompaniment of the album, and bring the analogue past into the digital future. While they are not the core, they are but the floor on which all of the songs stand.
There is hardly a song, that in it's style belongs to another ; the album leads the listener from deep house over crispy dance floor burners and ambient songs up to spring-lusting romances with guitar samples. Already on his recent releases Hemmann revealed his strong affinity for electronic music with a fine hand for multi-faceted arrangements and that bit of swinging, into-eternity-pointing sound. Yes he is certainly among the foremost romantics of the electro-artists and he has a firm grasp of how to demonstrate his musical talents accordingly. With that, Bittersweet is again such a wonderful, mysterious body between the dance floor and the balcony, between the sweet sunrise and the energy-loaded club night. 

 Endlich: Mit Bittersweet legt Marek Hemmann sein zweites Soloalbum auf Freude am Tanzen vor. Ein großer Schritt nach der letzten Duo-Veröffentlichung unter dem Namen Marian, und in seiner weiter gedachten Pop-Klangsprache ganz eindeutig: ein echter Hemmann. Zehn Tracks, schnörkellos und vorwärtsdrängend, nach Hemmann-Manier differenziert abgemischt und lakonisch betitelt durch knappe Wortmarken. Der feine elektronische Sound wird immer wieder aufgebrochen durch den Einsatz knarzig-poppiger Synthies, eingespielt mit einem augenscheinlich stark vermehrten Maschinenpark. Diese warmen, bassigen Sounds sind der stete Begleiter durch das Album, und führen die analoge Vergangenheit in die digitale Zukunft. Denn sie sind nicht Mittelpunkt, sondern Teil eines erdigen Bodens, auf dem alle Songs stehen.
Es gibt kaum einen Song, der in seinem Stil dem anderen gleicht, das Album führt seine Hörer vom tiefen House über knackige Tanzflächenkracher und Ambientsongs bis hin zu frühlingshaften Romanzen mit Gitarrensamples. Schon auf seinen bisherigen Veröffentlichungen offenbarte sich Hemmann immer ganz einfach als großer Liebhaber elektronischer Musik mit einem feinen Händchen für vielschichtige Arrangements und den gewissen schwebenden, ins Unendliche weisenden Sound. Ja, er ist gewiss der große Romantiker unter den Elektro-Musikern, und er weiß seine musikalischen Talente auch dementsprechend einzusetzen. Und so ist auch Bittersweet wieder solch ein schönes, geheimnisvolles Wesen zwischen Tanzfläche und Balkon, zwischen süßem Sonnenaufgang und energiegeladener Club-Nacht.

The No Way Out EP by I am Frost will be released on Vergissmeinnicht on 1 August.

In "No Way Out" we hear the guitar play a funky, summery riff. The groovy bass line and driving percussion implore us to go crazy on the dance floor. As the track develops a rave-like synth sound emerges, adding tremendous energy to the mix. A confident, summer-time song that is simply about having fun.

I am Frost aka René Frost wurde 1987 in Feldberg geboren und lebt derzeit in der Techno-Hauptstadt Berlin. Auf dem Fusion Festival 2005 erlebte René den magischen Moment der ihn mit der Begeisterung für elektronische Musik infizierte. Als er vom Festival zurückkehrte besorgte er sofort seine ersten Turntables, einen Mixer und ein Bundle Vinyl. 2009 kehrte er dem Dorf den Rücken um am SAE-Institute Berlin Musikproduktion zu studieren und wurde bald darauf ein Teil des Vergissmeinnicht Künstlerkollektivs. 2013 startete René sein I am Frost Projekt und begann live auf diversen Festivals und Locations zu spielen. Seitdem hat René sich als Produzent konstant weiterentwickelt und EPs, Remixes und Singles auf verschiedenen Labels veröffentlicht.
