Maldita Vaina (@malditavaina) joins MLE for a very special guest mix on RIDDIM CNXN EP 3: FEMMEBOW, an exploration of the women/femmes in modern Caribbean music. FEMMEBOW is also an all new biweekly femme/queer event in Houston, TX hosted by MLE and produced by @tumbao.htx.

Maldita Vaina is a Lesbiana Prietx artist, facilitator, and open format DJ based in Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana exploring Black, Afro, Caribx memories, history and imagination through sound.

Guest DJ: Mamicana (CHI/NYC)

Mamicana is an eclectic artist who centers the Black diaspora and the Caribbean in her sounds. You can expect to sweat from dancing during her sets. Her sound is wide-ranging, crossing borders while remaining rooted in her Black Caribbean, South Side Chicago, Mexican identity. She created her own party "Gyrate" in April 2021 in response to a void of Black women headlining shows in Chicago's nightlife scene. It's been a monthly recurring party ever since. The party incorporates dancers and visuals to provide a unique experience and demonstrate Mamicana's vision in aligning music with culture and community.

This album is a collection of never before released remixes and mashups created for the 2022 Boiler Room Cumbia Showcase in Houston, TX which featured MLE and other local and global DJs and musicians. The tracks embody Houston's fusion cumbia cultures and the artist's unique perspective in bridging hip hop, New Orleans bounce, cumbia, Caribbean music, and more. The album features a bonus alternative instrumental track as well.

LENTO 3.0 (Con Amor, MLE)

MLE is a DJ/producer, cultural historian and educator from Houston, Texas. She believes in creating intentional community spaces on the dancefloor as sites for collective healing, empowerment, and release. Her sonic profile centers Afro-Caribbean and Afro-diasporic sounds that draw from her Panamanian heritage, upbringing in Texas, and curiosity to explore Black diasporic connections in music. 

She is the founder of "Tumbao HTX," a digital archive, record label, and event production platform celebrating Afro-diasporic sounds from Latin American and beyond. Under Tumbao, she co-hosts “La Jungla,” a femme, queer, and music forward tropical dance experience with DJ Yanna in Houston. She was featured in Boiler Room’s Cumbia Showcase in Houston in October 2022 and is set to release her debut remix EP “Algo Más Allá” this summer.
