Les Voltages 8 was a collective born in the 1970s around the Guadeloupean musician Erick Cosaque, one of the key figures in preserving and modernizing gwoka, the traditional music of Guadeloupe. Their work fused ancestral percussion, call-and-response chants, and Caribbean rhythms with touches of jazz, funk, and reggae. The group’s music carried the pulse of resistance and cultural pride, keeping alive the voice of the Afro-Caribbean identity within a changing modern world.

Appearing on the 1973 album Special Groska, “Pan en tchou a pan (La Palabra)” embodies the spirit of gwoka while pushing it into new spaces.
