It’s been a strange week in Severan-land.  The weather here in Colorado turned warm again, we’re having an Indian Summer.  At least I get a few more weeks of lovely fall fashion *I see you cardigan*. The weather, combined with a healthy dose of change in my personal life, has produced an eclectic batch of new music goodies for you today.

Also, some fun stuff happened in musical land this week.  Most notably was Sacramento noise rap group, Death Grips, dropping their 3rd album on Wednesday for FREE.  Go listen here.

Speaking of new music that’s totally awesome and free, Brooklyn-via-Toronto-via-Bogota singer Tei Shi dropped her incredibly stunning debut EP “Saudade” on the 12th.  I haven’t been this excited about a female vocalist in a long, long time.  She knocked off Banks as my go-to lyrical heart throb of the moment and the music arrangement makes me feel Bjorky.  Yes I just made Bjork a verb.

Finally, the lyrical find of the week isn’t new, but is new to me.  New Jersey’s Brick + Mortar has been around since 2008 and released “Move to the Ocean” last year but it somehow slipped through my musical fingers.  I’m happy to rectify that with the punchy instrumentation and divine songwriting that encapsulates my feelings as I moved into my twenties.

That feeling of seeing life as an open canvas of possibility, but having enough experience that the canvas is already splattered with a little black and red.  This track has a darkly defiant energy daring anyone to deny its presence.
