Boyd H. Jarvis (October 26, 1958 – February 17, 2018) was an American record producer, remixer and musician, best known for his song, co-written with Jason Smith, "The Music Got Me"; released in 1983 by Prelude Records. He has collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, La Toya Jackson and Johnny Kemp.  In the early 1980s, a time in which New York City was the world's nexus of burgeoning musical movements such as underground club/post-disco, rap, hip hop and electro, Jarvis created a musical sound through the use of home made, reel to reel and hand-played sparse synthesizer and drum machine tracks, that were featured extensively as overdubs on early-mid 1980s New York WBLS FM “extended music sweeps” with DJs Timmy Regisford and later, Merlin Bobb.  Mr. Jarvis played the synthesizer while Mr. Regisford mixed records and played beats he had made. He came up with his own style of bass lines, and he parlayed the bass lines into a lot of different music, and it opened the gateway to what they now call house music.

While searching the radio dial for music that moved my friends and me, in the late '80's we discovered 98.7 Kiss FM, home of DJs like Tony Humphries, and telecasts from Tunnel and Zanzibar.

Inspired by the greats, I spent many an afternoon riding my 10-speed to the local record stores, flipping through stacks of vinyl, hoping to match titles to sounds I'd heard on the radio or the dance floor, and then add to my crates. Though formats have changed many times since, I've held onto some favorites and still treasure an autographed Adeva record, "WARNING!" from back in the day.

Countless forays into NYC found us at Tunnel, of course, and at Limelight, The Building, Red Zone, Palladium, Danceteria, Love, and Club Shelter, likely the most influential venues for experiencing music that spoke to my soul.

Since those days, I have continued to follow my favorite producers and DJs and have dabbled into music production myself, some of which I hope to share soon!
