Direct yet sophisticated, brutal yet refined, physical yet cerebral: opposites collide to perfection on this latest transmission from one of Hamburg's finest exports and a bona fide techno legend - Oliver Huntemann. Here, he returns to his very own Senso imprint with two massive tracks aimed firmly at the floor.
The airy feel of 'Schwarzlicht' with its simple kick-less beat and intricate, textured woodblocks gives way to an imposing, thorax-rattling low end that's felt as much as heard. Precision-engineered for a big system, the pitch-bent bass twists around itself like a contortionist in chains, while above, brittle piercing stabs pulse and ping.
On the flipside, the slamming kick and buzzing repetitions of 'Filmriss' cast a dark, edgy vibe. A pitched-up pulse - as if a string is being slowly tightened to breaking point - makes way for a monstrous sub bass. Deeply accomplished, these tracks are ample testimony to Huntemann's two-decade stint at techno's cutting edge.

expanding the Afterlife totality into a label. The label and events will complement each other with one
aim; to bring the crowd into another dimension of music perception with enthralling production to that
ignite the senses.
The ‘Realm Of Consciousness’ voyage commences with Tale Of Us’ Lies - a fitting introduction with
quivering keys and restrained percussion that engenders an ominous suspense ahead of Monoloc’s
enigmatic industrial techno crunch, Phoenix. Shifting through the haunting chords of Recondite’s dynamic
Murphy’s Law, to the brooding synth of Poseidon by Ukrainian duo Woo York, the realisation of Afterlife
utopia is upon us. The repetitive, mesmerising synth and effective reverb that Somne creates with Triangle
is an odyssey within itself. From there, John Hester’s expertly woven ‘Logan’ is a feverish techno stab that
transverses through the emotional senses, transitioning to Locked Groove’s adroitly crafted Emeralds, to
Ryan James Ford’s ambient, albeit percussive, techno cut Toree Bahrstad. Die Wiederkehr is the outcome
of Obscure Shape & SHDW’s collaboration, which incorporates facets of techno and trance that have
been shaped with real guile and finesse. Mind Against round off the compilation with Gravity - a
mystifying ambience and a fitting title as we touch back down to planet earth.

October 13th 2017 sees the esteemed German Techno DJ/producer Oliver Huntemann find himself on the cusp of yet a new era in his career with the release of his fifth album entitled, ‘Propaganda’.

'Propaganda' is Huntemann’s fifth long-player, and like each of its predecessors, it shows a different side to one of the most consistently rewarding names in Techno. Huntemann explains, “The sound of Propaganda is more grown up, I’ve left the times of reducing to the max behind to create a certain atmosphere throughout the whole album. Of course most tracks work well on the dancefloor but the task was also to make them as interesting as possible for listening sessions - simply to reach another level.”

Released on his own Senso Sounds label, the album exudes the level of assurance that perhaps only comes with being so active in curating and developing a label that has stood out from the masses since its inception in 2014.

'Propaganda' opens with 'Taktik', and the mood is quickly established through crisp motorik drum programming and deep, pulsing bass lines. 'Poltergeist' - the 2nd cut, continues this aesthetic - a deep and spacious groover.

Clocking in at over 1 hour 15 minutes, the 12-tracker allows a lot of space for itself, each tracking having the time it needs to develop and unfold. 'Egoist' ramps up the feel somewhat with intricate melodies and effects, before breaking down into something that will destroy many dance floors. Yet the beauty of the album format is that it allows for various mood changes, and 'Malaria' brings us something of a shift into a more freaked out and edgy vibe, while 'Anonym' highlights Huntemann’s mastery of atmosphere, serving as an ambient / downbeat interlude. 'Rotlicht' is perhaps a standout for fans of Huntemann’s epic DJ sets, exhibiting all the control and release dynamic that make him such an engaging performer. It’s also clearly a key cornerstone for the entire album.

Next up is 'Absurd', followed by 'Manipulation' - both reference the exquisite sound design Huntemann instils into his precision-built tracks, while remaining primed for club use at all times. 'Momentum' switches up the tempo, perhaps influenced by more experimental, no wave and krautrock sources - and serving as punctuation before the album's final triptych. 'Vertigo' sees shimmering arpeggiated synths skip across a solid rhythm track, while 'Doppelgänger' builds a delicious tension through constant pads and pulsing, blocky bass tones. 'Trick17' ultimately rounds off 'Propaganda', - an expanse of emotionally charged techno with Huntemann’s signature feel woven into its fabric.

Serendeep continues a strong start to their journey by welcoming Michael A to the label for his debut EP. Since first appearing in 2012, the Belarus based artist has risen up through the progressive house ranks at a remarkable rate. A groovy, detailed sound combined with a prolific release schedule has led to support from the genre's elite, including Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy Mantzur. Releases on Sudbeat Music, Cid Inc's Replug Records and his own Genesis Music imprint have been recent discography highlights. Now making his much anticipated Serendeep debut, Michael presents his latest EP entitled 'Aviate' alongside a remix from Roger Martinez.

The lead selection 'Aviate' finds Michael presenting some of his best and most anticipated work to date. Building fluently; warm beats, rhythmic clusters and waves of perfectly contoured bass unite for a smooth free flowing groove. Airy pads and haunting atmospherics deliver a subtle yet powerful shift in emotive energy, perfectly segueing into the main break. Warm and radiant, the centrepiece further advances the narrative with a wall of granular fuzz playing off charming chord changes, before a timely drop serves up an exhilarating finale. The companion piece 'Soul Digger' has been much hyped since being aired by Hernan Cattaneo on his hugely popular Resident podcast. A touch deeper than its predecessor, Michael builds a groovy framework through organic drums, hip swinging rhythms and a quirky, metallic lead. Trippy and brooding in equal measure, the main break proves impactful, escalating tension through symphonic themes and a dark undertone, which generates a bridge into a futuristic final act.

The lone interpretation of 'Soul Digger' is provided by Roger Martinez who makes his label debut. Revered by both his fans and contemporaries, the Dutch artist has found a home on some of progressive music's top imprints. Guy J's Lost and Found Records and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music have become outlets for Roger's creative vision, and his nomadic style has flourished as a result. Now making his much anticipated Serendeep debut Roger crafts a stunning rendition of 'Soul Digger' to round the release out on a strong note. Beginning with punchy beats and redolent rhythms, it's the detail and fluidity of the groove which becomes instantly compelling. Perfectly contoured and full of great character, it anchors what is a sleek, percussive and highly imaginative slice of progressive house. In remodelling the main elements Roger takes the listener on a nine minute journey, resulting in a spirited, timeless piece of music which is under constant evolution.

Launched in March amidst much praise, Serendeep's second release now builds on that momentum, to continue what promises to be a memorable year for the Sri Lankan imprint.
