Joakim commissioned remixes of his latest album Second Nature by artists he loves, some rising stars and some legends ;-)

This is the first one, feat @yutie_lee, by Chilean born, Italy based @paula.tape who recently released a great EP on @rhythmsectionhq and will be touring the world this summer!

Some words about this work from Paula :

"I had a feeling for Formosan Rock immediately, the very first time I listened to. I loved how organic the sounds were, I love the percussions and the use of birds sound.
I was intrigued by the lyrics and ask to joakim the translation to understand how I can work on the cuts. Joakim’s work is great, the original is a beautiful track and it wasn't hard to find the right samples that fit with with my taste to work with.
I had the feeling to add a house spin and build an emotional moment that can touch the listener and take him by hand to the end, either for private listening and live djsets.
It's been much fun trying to give a second life to the original one. I hope people may enjoy it as much I did when I have been working on it. Thanks Joakim for inviting me in this remix pack, it's a honour for me."

Six months after the first volume, not for profit label Sinchi, which donates all proceeds to support the preservation of indigenous culture, follows up with the second edition of their Altered States compilation. ‘Altered States Vol.1’ was supported by a great cast of DJs, from Andrew Weatherall and Jennifer Cardini to Perel, Horsemeat Disco, Red Axes, Emperor Machine, Ewan Pearson and many others. This second chapter looks set to get dance music’s eclectic trendsetters equally excited with it’s fusion of indie dance, electro, leftfield techno/disco and more. 

First up is Disco Halal and Futureboogie artist Kincaid who is joined by Cee Cee Carter to kick things off. ​Kincaid is a young London talent who has been ​learning his craft, plying his trade and honing his productions under alternative guises for many years. His experimental style is inspired by global sounds as evidenced here by a brilliantly slow and purposeful leftfield trip through a deserted and derelict urban landscape late at night. Tassilo Vanhöfen has worked as Urameshi and ​Industrial Melancholy and the Frankfurt man has a wealth of new music ready to go in the New Year. Here he offers ​the excellent 'Glassware', a superb seven-minute electro style chugger with majestic synth work and far-sighted chords.

Nein Records’ Carolain Luf has gained a lot of attention for her eclectic sets over the last 10 years and is a resident of the Olympe party series at Griessmuehle, Berlin. Her standout production ​here is underpinned by a warped bassline and subtle acid undulations that slowly add up to an epic trip. Germany's Heidenreich is a debut artist who says the inspiration for this one came from "an after-hours where I found a documentary about the invention of radio. I made it with my Korg MicroKorg, a Minilouge, guitar and some VSTs." The result is an intergalactic broadcast, a cosmic communication with a faraway planet made up of gurgling lines, analogue sounding drums and hits and plenty of muffled spoken word samples. 

Safety Last is another artist making their debut, based in Toronto, he is one to watch with upcoming releases on Ombra and Hard Fist. Here he transports post-punk and techno punk sounds from the 80s into his own unique style. The excellent '6 Strings' is a case in point with its rugged guitar riffs and slap-funk drums which very much take you back to the future on an epic biker trip. Lastly, Alex Aguayo from Mexico has already featured on Nein and Wonder Stories and now serves up a scintillating journey through wiry disco synths & cosmic arps that are edgy and futuristic. This is an essential collection of this well-minded label’s broad array of sounds from red hot producers all over the world.

PREMIERE : Heidenreich - Interstellar Radio

For this second opus, we continue our momentum and we're offering a various artists composed of 4 tracks.

The EP opens on the track " Prendre l'Air " by Vitess. We find the signature of the young producer with a neat and precise production, all enhanced by a millimetric breakbeat and an airy atmosphere, backed by an acid lead.The second track is produced by Pépé Elle who offers here a one-way ticket to England with his UKG infused "Carbon Dance" track. We find all the markers of the style, from syncopated rhythmics to powerful wobble bass. Perfect to turn a club upside down on any circumstance.

The Italians from MDC open the B side with the track Bouncing. The atmosphere gets darker and sweatier. We find grimmy vocals, a heady and efficient acid bassline. The Ep closes on the track The Resistance by Wilt. We continue to evolve in darker atmospheres with a tension that is created throughout the track without ever failing, all supported by a powerful breakbeat that will leave no one intact.

PREMIERE: Wilt - The Resistance [Chat Noir Records]

Following the buzz of two earlier EPs, Haider gears up for his third release of 2020 this time on Aus Music. The immaculate afterhours jams on ‘Dance Now Cry Later’ dip into lo-fi aesthetics, blending them with chic sound design playful vocal chops and a virtuosic approach.

'Levitate' embodies exactly that, with the canary-esque synth guiding you into darker territories that befall shortly after the intro. Stong drum work and a surging electro bassline carries you through into the remainder of the cut, filling the mix to near entirety yet leaving just enough room for the introduction vocal stabs and arps along the way. Lovely work again from Haider who despite current goings-on is turning 2020 into a very productive and defining year.
