Everything Is Sparkling

Participation mystique refers to the innate human connection to symbolic and imaginative experiences. This symbolic realm exists before or alongside our ability to think analytically or rationally. The idea is strongly linked to projection, as these symbolic or mythic elements naturally extend themselves into the world around us—into people, places, and things, just like how we unconsciously assign color to what we see.

Participation mystique is not just a psychological concept, but an aesthetic principle – a lens through which we perceive art as more than just something we observe; it becomes something inhabited.

In artistic terms, participation mystique can be thought of as a dissolving boundary between the self and the image. In this perspective, any manifestation of art can be perceived not just as an external object, but as an extension of the viewer’s unconscious. Colors, shapes, and atmosphere resonate with inner archetypes – mythical, primordial, emotional – before the mind can name them. This is why abstract compositions can seem hauntingly familiar, or why certain symbols – like a spiral, a doorway, or a shady forest – draw out something ancient, deep, and unconscious from us.

A collaboration with Our Forgotten Future, who also provided the cover art. 

He laid down these wonderful ambient textures as a canvas to build on, then it took me 2 months to figure out how to take this sense of movement and progression and elevate it. I've been experimenting a lot with low-pass gates as a way to make rhythmic elements from drones and textures and this was natural way to build up this piece, by processing the source materials in multiple ways - rhythmically, through resonation, harmonization, and a little distortion. 

The pulse track took so many takes to get the balance of punch and motion without overloading everything else.

Distant Lights

Le Code and KapTep are back with the sequel to their album “Urban Garden,” released in 2024 on Mare Nostrum. “Urban Garden, Volume 2” is available on the Ambient Cat label and marks a new stage in the collaboration between the two artists.

“We wanted to explore new things and bring in elements that we hadn't dared to try before. The motto during the writing of the album was: No limits!” And that's exactly what the artists did: while the album starts with ambient soundscapes, it evolves into more electronic atmospheres, with beats even appearing on some tracks.

Alex's and Derek's techno heritage is also represented in Urban Garden, Volume 2, supported by quality reworks by Sebby Kowal and Dionisaf, who are always ready to experiment.
