Skankandbass is dedicated towards the official promotion of record labels and artists in the world of drum & bass music. Since inception in 2009, Skankandbass has unearthed some of the freshest talents in the scene and has opened many doors for unsigned artists. Now, through Skankandbass Records we release a series of free download singles which aims to further help spread the work of the best unsigned, newcomer artists who deserve more recognition.

After a series of International releases we return to the UK with SNB056, coming to us from Bournemouth based talent Operate.  He came onto our radar last year after featuring on SNB044 with Klinical, as their collab ‘Requiem’ went on to become one of our most successful tracks.  His well developed sound design is testament to years of honing his craft and collaborating with some of the UK’s most promising up-and-coming talents like Skantia, Subsonic & Klinical; and now he graces Skankandbass Records with his most accomplished release to date, ‘By Chance / Chambers’.

DIS:TURBED's newly-founded Identity Records imprint kicks off with a huge bang, bringing through 4 of the Drum & Bass scene's most exciting talents for a dark, subterranean debut EP. Here, we see a selection of upcoming powerhouses go to town on the much-loved minimal sound, namely Recon, Half Cab, Medusa and Hickupz, the latter of which we recently dropped a collaborative Premiere / Free Download with, check that via our 'Free Downloads' playlist. Back to this EP, and we're treated to a masterclass in devilish sonics from Recon, who's kicked up a storm on 'Dark Places'. Fabulously textured and warped, this is plucked straight out of the top-drawer from a producer who's sure to go on to do big things in the scene. Clicky, snappy percs meet sharp, robotic atmospherics in a hybrid of sounds that works perfectly - what an opener.

OTW Premiere / Free DL: Recon - Dark Places [Identity Records]

“Obituary” by Hickupz is a seriously heavyweight tune, fully showcasing the versatility minimalism has. Using the simplicity of stripped back drums, the moody atmospherics shine forth even more and create the brooding vibe of the tune. The effectiveness of the vocal sample that leads into the second drop is not be undersestimated, it’s a surging drop you won’t expect and won’t soon forget!

That deep vibration of bass is a hallmark of DnB, and so is its driving pace. “Mystery Powder” by Half Cab revels in this: the swing of the kick and snare which instantly drags you in, the subterranean reach of the bass tones that threaten to overwhelm your senses, the sudden change of pace brought out by the hat section that sends you into hyperdrive, the hypnotic repetition of the fuzzed out melody which send you to the furthest reaches of space.

DIS:TURBED's high-flying Identity Records imprint continues to go from strength to strength with their latest release, which again exceeds all high expectations for the ascending grassroots platform. Proving his strong penchant for solid A&R, the label boss has locked in Identity stalwart Recon, a fresh collaboration from newcomers Jenks & Esoro, some real submerged darkness from Melodrama and a voyage into the night from Resslek - we've had the pleasure of premiering the latter. As per, the  EP will be available for free very soon via the Identity Soundcloud, which has surged in popularity since its inception just a short time ago. Identity Records has been hard at work, searching and plumbing the depths of DnB to find the freshest beats and most innovative creations out there. Continuing to expand on the genre and its sounds in truly mind-bending fashion is none other than Recon, crafting a wobbly infectious tune with “Truth Be Told.” His creativity is on full display here, blending the warped sounds of the bassline with hypnotic effects in a truly eye-opening manner. The bouncy rhythm itself is a real twist on the patterns employed in this genre, cementing the addictive vibe this tune carries. Big up on all support
