Devoid of Reactions hums in its guttural, enduring beauty: a server resolving its own error state, infinitely in vacuous corridors, sprawling with endless instantiations of self. The air in it tastes of Tallinn in winter: iron, salt, damp stone. Hiss and mutter; bass pooling to the neck, thick and mineral, cooling and bubbling. Written in dust residue from seismic activity above, condensation rings on a steel table, fingerprints in the corner of a control panel, the slow ache of a signal that reaches further than comprehension. Echo Lucida keeps the map folded and trudges through.

The latest release on Tobago Tracks sees Berlin-based producer
Alobhe deliver four blistering cuts of forward thinking club
music.

State Space encapsulates the paranoia and angst felt in an
increasingly polarised world, typified by feelings of helplessness.
The EP spans four sonically diverse pieces, opening with ‘State
Space Conversion’, which introduces Alobhe’s visceral and direct
aesthetic.

While ostensibly lo-fi, tracks such as ‘Numb’ and ‘Reload’ contain
elements of progressive experimentation that challenge the
perception of conventional lo-fi hardware based club music.
Numb’s nauseating warped sample over a solemn distorted
electric guitar dirge epitomises the lack of agency felt whilst
voyeuristically consuming the spectacle of the modern world.
These themes are continued in ‘Reload’, where out of sync drums
and lead loosely give the track shape, implode briefly, and then
reassert themselves, further adding to this sense of unease.
With an enigmatic online presence and little to go by outside of
her moniker, Alobhe has created a jarring fusion of electro, black
metal, techno and sample based experimentation.

ptpf is an acronym derived from the surname of Russian producer Ilya Potapov. Coming from Saint Petersburg, Potapov has been self-releasing comprehensive collections of sorely wrenched music for the past couple years. His first two projects under the ptpf moniker - '1935' and 'G.D. ' (dating back to 2015 and 2016, respectively) somewhat resemble the formula fundamental for the haunting atmosphere of an early witch house or other industrial offshots. Although the experimental nature of ptpf's works is evident throughout these releases, the transition towards more abstract realms manifests utterly on his 2019 album 'Salivation'. Coming out via the already-cult label Quantum Natives, 'Salivation' sees ptpf embracing the disorder and the tensity that was previously tamed and now has been let loose entirely. Gin&Platonic are now pleased to present ptpf's follow-up musical instalment - 'obsession'.

On 'obsession', Potapov's signature distant muttering collides with abraded power electronics, together creating a four-track EP full of dreadful emotional confession not everybody is ready to hear out loud. The disturbing nature of the project evokes a gradual dissociation from a long-forgotten tenderness into an emotional imbalance and urgent confusion. What once felt like affection, now feels like an obsession.

The leading single 'Shibari' is remixed by @rina-priduvalova, a Ukrainian interdisciplinary artist who released her first EP 'The Tears Of Things' in 2019. She is now in the process of preparing multiple audiovisual projects together with Diana Azzuz as Ximena. We also reached out to Greek rhythmic alchemists @ice_eyes, whose releases we have on heavy rotation, having received a slamming remix of 'Nobody´s Fault'. Last but not least, the endlessly creative brain behind Quantum Natives themselves - @ornine - closes the release with a sublime rework of 'Last Record'.

Premiere: ptpf - Nobody's Fault (Ice_Eyes Remix)[Gin&Platonic]

‘JAC’ is a collaborative release by Shanghai based Gooooose and Berlin based DJ Scotch Egg. After meeting for the first time at Nyege Nyege Festival, Uganda, in 2019, SVBKVLT brought Scotch Egg to Shanghai for a one week studio session with Gooooose in Jan 2020, just a couple of weeks before Covid-19 took hold. The result is JAC, a 6 track release, including a track with vocal samples from Swordman Kitala, recorded by Scotch Egg during his residency at the Nyege villa, plus remixes from Slikback and Seven Orbits & TSVI, with artwork by Andy Rolfes and design by Luke Griffiths. Very dengrouse!!
