Elevated far above the streets in one of the towering high-rise buildings that dominated the urban heart, the sound of the high-octane pursuit below barely penetrated the bleak musty cubical. Its cigarette-stained walls are etched with the marks he’d made to signify the passing of his life in this space. The ever-present hum of building’s servers that once he’d thought faintly pleasant, oppressively penetrated his eardrums - continually evolving… scraping the inside of his brain like sonic sandpaper. Flickering lights from the city’s exterior advertisements strobed across the dark sea of cubicles, the huddled occupants of each fixated on the faint glow of their viewscreens, their enslaved minds pouring over the flow of a sea of meaningless data. The lights hurt his eyes these days, each wave illuminating his dank space peaked his migraine – like shards of glass penetrating deep into the roots of his skull and twisting within his cortex on the way. He was at the edge, hovering on the very horizon of sanity itself… the boundary blurring – what was more insane – this existence? Or the one he desired – to tear himself free from the bonds of this reality… for his heart to burn with the light of a thousand stars as he steered his body towards the purity of presence outside of this slavery… to defy the great architect and stand proud just for a moment… Just as this thought manifested, he felt the tight grip upon his shoulder - briskly pulling him around to see the corrupt, fat, distorted face of the overseer sneering down through that twisted crevice of a mouth. Those chains broke – he felt his hand grasping the keyboard that he had been so long manacled to in his mind, moving with the rotation of the chair as he rose swiftly with the roar that escaped him so fluidly. The overseer’s shocked expression froze in time as the keyboard collided with his mouth – landing with such brutal force that the shockwave passed through his fat face. With that roar, he felt free… he had found himself.
 
SEGMENT & CONCEPT VISION follow up their incredible MAMMOTH EP with their 2nd impressive outing on neurofunk’s leading label, EATBRAIN. Proving once more the exceptional skill of their combined production with the 5 heavy-duty tracks of the ROAR EP (including free release with the vocal-led ‘EMPIRE’), the pair set the bar high through their powerful sound. They had watched silently and stealthily from the cold vacuum of space, processing the activity of the civilization on the planet designated by the prime species as ‘Earth’. Monitoring the frequencies below and this culture’s increasingly advanced, but still infant communication technologies. The enforcers of galactic order - observing and calculating the potential for breaching the rift at that critical moment of social and technological advancement at which so many races had fallen. These primes were culturally schizophrenic, with much of the race confusing universal anomalies for the supernatural whilst the elite reached ever deeper towards a true understanding of the mysteries that would unlock access to the depths of the galaxy. The exploration of volatile sonic forces both powerful and dangerous, with the potential to turn simple civilizations into dangerous swarms with the capacity to disrupt the galactic harmony. NickBee is an instantly recognisable name across the darker realms of drum & bass. Constantly evolving his sound, he's stayed on its forefront since the beginning, grabbing the attention of scene heavyweights and distributing his hard-hitting sounds throughout the entire genre. Across the shadier world of the European club circuit, his music is played in every venue and his sonic cuts have become an integral part of its backbone. He's an architect of the neurofunk realm, wielding his trademark signature and pushing through the animalistic bassline he's become renowned for through this next release on Ignescent Recordings.

The experimental element to his music is what makes it interesting. The artist has become a tastemaker at such a young age, with his defining, next-level composition design never overstated or applied too thickly. With a balance of hi-tech and low-fi elements, he's expertly crafted this EP with the utmost precision. ‘The Space Tunnel EP' carries forward the type of production which has made him so famous and a defining part of the subgenre's history.

‘Space Tunnel' exorcizes the beast, with crashing drum patterns and a snare that crunches aggressively against its bassline. NickBee goes in for the aural jugular, unafraid to draw blood. 

Next comes ‘Chaos', featuring the daunting vocals of Emily Harkness. Taking you bit by bit into a climatic drop, NickBee smashes forward with pounding breaks yet remains inconspicuous with his approach. 

‘Get it closer' is an intimidating mix of percussion and whirling beat patterns, moving you closer and closer into its chaotic middle. 

And lastly, ‘Pandorum' nods to its track title with punching drums and mysterious atmospherics, bringing forward the type of composition which is well known throughout the NickBee discography.

Together all four tracks present an EP which breaks through every rule set up for drum & basses more marketable output. The future world of 174 is ruled by people like NickBee; those unafraid to break the rules and present a different side to the experimental soundscape which is available to every musician. NickBee takes charge of this dominion, which is the primary reason he's so widely known throughout the genre's every corner.
