Wet - Don't Wanna Be Your Girl (Branchez Remix)

Sons of the East is a three-piece indie-folk band from Sydney, consisting of Jack Rollins, Nic Johnston and Dan Wallage. Formed in mid 2011, the band has played at multiple venues throughout Sydney and up and down the east coast of NSW, and seem to draw a crowd wherever they play. Their original blend of keys, guitar, banjo and vocal harmonies have seen them build a strong following that is continually growing. Energetic and dynamic on stage, the trio writes songs that are equally as catchy as they are lively; the kind of band that have you singing at the first song and up on your feet at the second. Recently Sons of the East released their much anticipated film clip for the debut single, 'Hold On', having worked with a talented film production team led by director Samuel Leighton-Dore. Alongside that, the band has been recording their debut E.P. with producer Ash Maklad at the Attic Recording & Mix Suite, and are set to be releasing it in the coming months. Having already received airplay on Triple J without releasing a single track, Sons of the East are fast becoming one of Sydney's premier new acts.

When an indie band employs banjo, xylophone, harmonium and glockenspiel, one expects its recording process to be just as eccentric; DIY studios on abandoned burial grounds or creaky, ambient old houses come to mind. But for Freelance Whales, that supernatural power doesn’t come from a contrived location, but instead grows out of a gothic love story. Concept album Weathervane, the band’s debut release, explores a boy’s romantic fantasies about the ghostly woman who haunts his family home. Years of rehearsing in unusual places—city streets, subway platforms, and geriatric wards—have enabled Freelance Whales to transfer their vagabond minstrelsy to record, heightening the dreamy, atmospheric quality of Weathervane’s songs without relying on an exotic location.
