Awake in the World Podcast is a library of talks on a wide-range of topics, including bringing mindfulness and meditation practice into daily life; personal and community issues regarding mental health; and social change. Leo Genovese was born in Venado Tuerto, Argentina in the 1970s, amid the psychedelic sound and language of his generation. After studying classical and contemporary music in his homeland, he moved to Boston to do the jazz thing.

He currently leads a band called The Chromatic Gauchos, a powerful avant-garde ensemble, and is a co-founder of the group The Sewer Ratz, a band that chases the non-playing music practice. These days, Leo tours with the Esperanza Spalding´s band.Long time cohort of Esperanza Spalding has Leo globe-trotting playing all kinds of venues, from Carnegie Hall to under a tree at a side of a non-existent road.

Leo bakes bread, directs amateur films, owns cassettes, loves the sun and is currently teaching himself how to play the saxophone.

Since 1994 when Nicholas Payton made his recording debut as a leader with From This Moment, the trumpeter has been lauded as a significant, top-tier voice in jazz. Even though he started out as a “young lion of jazz,” heralded as one of the new-generation guardians of the hard bop flame, Payton consistently committed himself to discovering his voice outside of the strict confines of that rearview mirror approach to the music.
While his jazz journey has taken him down many roads—from heritage artist to electric experimenter—the 34-year-old trumpeter arrives at a new plateau of jazz maturity with Into the Blue, his ninth album and his first for Nonesuch . It’s at once a nod to the past and a leap into the future. “It’s an amalgam of every recording I’ve done up until now,” says Payton. “As a musician, as an artist, you’re always trying to zero in on the bull’s eye as a means of becoming a better version of yourself. With Into the Blue, I’ve been able to find the kind of music that’s more inclusive of all of my life. The approach and the ideas of my music have become more singular, more cohesive. I had no agenda in terms of a specific genre or style, only to be true to who I am now.”

About Dave Douglas
Dave Douglas is a prolific trumpeter, composer and educator from New York City. His unique contributions to improvised music have garnered distinguished recognition, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, an Aaron Copland award and two Grammy nominations. Douglas has developed his work for several unique ensembles with whom he’s currently active, including his new quintet; Keystone, an electric sextet; and, Sound Prints, co-led with saxophonist Joe Lovano.

Since 2005, Douglas has operated his own record label, Greenleaf Music, releasing his own recordings as well as albums by other artists in the jazz idiom. Through his artist-friendly approach and innovative practices, he continues to prove himself a pioneer among artist-run labels.

Douglas has held several posts as an educator and impresario. From 2002 to 2012, he served as artistic director of the Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music at The Banff Centre in Canada. He is a co-founder and director of the Festival of New Trumpet Music, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2012. In 2013, he began his second year as International Jazz Artist in Residence at the Royal Academy of Music in London and launched his own Jazz Workshop, dedicated to enriching the musical experiences of younger players.

Born October 27, 1975, in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, Igor began his professional training at age 19 at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz, Austria, where he studied with Doug Hammond. During this period, he was a member of Munich-based band Sidewinders, winner of the“Best Jazz Group of Germany” award.
After completing his studies with honors, Igor was invited by one of the world’s finest bassists, Reggie Workman, to study at the New School University in New York City. He received a scholarship and moved to New York in fall 2000.
In New York Igor trained with some of the world’s finest musicians—George Garzone, Reggie Workman, Buster Williams, Chico Hamilton and many others. In April 2002, Igor was selected for the New School All-Star Wayne Shorter Ensemble, which performed at the “Beacons In Jazz” award ceremony at the Supper club, where Mr. Shorter was honored. 
Igor performed at jazz festivals in Munich, Ljubljana, Belgrade,Novi Sad, Csfero, at major jazz clubs in New York including the Jazz Standard, Cornelia Street Cafe, Supper Club Birdland; and venues all over the world with such jazz legends as Reggie Workman, John Abercrombie, Chico Hamilton.
In 2011 Igor was commisioned to create a piece for a closure of European Capital of Culture. With multimedia artist Zeljka Blaksic he created “Resistance of the Earth”, which is a multimedia project that combines several artistic genres; from video, performance, 16 mm film to live music. The theme of the project covers the world of natural disasters like earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes and tornados.
 
 
Igor’s band Innertextures represents Igor's passion for the music to journey to new and daring places.  He is supported in this effort by bassist Chris Tordini and drummer Nasheet Waits. Igor has released three CDs as a leader:
“Innertextures live” (2012), just came out on Portuguese label Clean Feed Records, “Mineral Mind” (2009),   “Innertextures” (2004)   In addition to his work as a performer, he has an active career as an educator, having taught master classes and improvisation lessons throughout Europe and the United States.
