We do another interview show, this time when we have a conversation with longtime Baker Street Irregular Peter Blau ("Black Peter"). Peter is one of the center points of the Sherlockian hub and has plenty of great stories to tell. Add to that an audio comment from a listener, and we've got a show that should not be missed.

Scott and Burt interview Bob Thomalen, BSI to learn more about his involvement with the Sherlockian world, including his claim to fame, Autumn in Baker Street (aka “The Great Sherlockian Sleepover"). We pick up where we left off in Episode 11, talking with Bob Thomalen, BSI ("The Three Garridebs") about how he was able to make his events so successful so early on, how he went about selecting speakers, what it was like to work with Tom Stix, and a wonderful legacy left to us by Bob's closest Sherlockian friend.

Michael Whelan (Part 1)

Well, it's been in the news quite frequently lately. The new Sherlock Holmes movie has brought new life to the literary franchise we all know and love.

But Holmesians have a number of questions: how is it? Does Robert Downey, Jr. make a decent Holmes? Is the "bromance" just a little too much for the purists? Will those raised on Rathbone be able to stand the latest reincarnation?

To help us answer these questions and perhaps raise a few more, Scott and Burt are joined in this episode by Sherlockian film critic David F. Morrill, BSI ("Count Von Kramm"), a man who owns as many as 10,000 movies - some of which are actually worth watching. David helps us discern what makes a good cinematic Holmes, shares his picks of the best film editions of The Sign of the Four, and shares his opinion on how Downey stacks up while dressing down.

Episode 21: Sherlock Holmes @ the Movies Part 1

You'll recall that on the last episode, we were joined by David Morrill, BSI ("Count von Kramm"), who offered an informed opinion about the new Sherlock Holmes film.


And as they do in the film business, we're offering you the sequel: part two of Sherlock Holmes at the Movies. Here we continue where we left off, discussing Jude Law's turn as Watson, working with animals, the potential for a sequel and more. Burt wraps up the show with an alternative to our traditional Editor's Gas-Lamp by sharing an excerpt from The Films of Sherlock Holmes by Chris Steinbrunner, BSI ("The Tankerville Club Scandal")

Episode 22: Sherlock Holmes @ the Movies Part 2

It isn't often that one gets an opportunity to chat with an accomplished actor, either from the big screen, small screen, or the stage. Burt and Scott were joined by one that has crossed all three, but whom is certainly known for his musical turn as Sherlock Holmes in the 1965 musical "Baker Street: A Musical Adventure of Sherlock Holmes:": none other than Tony Award-winning actor Fritz Weaver.

Episode 26: A Musical Stroll Down Baker Street

As you probably already know, Edward Hardwicke passed away in May 2011. To an entire generation of Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts, he was Dr. Watson, the faithful friend, biographer and colleague of Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes.

In this episode, we gather with two eminent Sherlockians who knew Mr. Hardwicke and explore his life and commitment to the craft a little deeper. We're joined by David Stuart Davies, BSI ("Sir Ralph Musgrave"), author of The Tangled Skein, Bending the Willow: Jeremy Brett As Sherlock Holmes and Starring Sherlock Holmes: A Century of the Master Detective on Screen, among many other titles. We were also fortunate to have Steven Doyle, BSI ("The Western Morning News"), author of Sherlock Holmes For Dummies, proprietor of the Wessex Press (sponsor), and organizer of the quadrennial conference From Gillette to Brett, which covers Holmes on the stage and screen.

Episode 33: Remembering Edward Hardwicke

When a fictional character's impact overflows to reality to affect what people are talking about, where they go and how they act, it's quite an accomplishment. When it happens in a nearly identical, if time-appropriate manner nearly 120 years apart, it must have something to to with Sherlock Holmes.

As this podcast is all about Sherlock Holmes, you can rest assured that is indeed the case. But what of it? This updated and renewed interest in our beloved master is curious, but in the end, quite elementary. Much of the chatter and buzz seen on the Internet in particular, has been generated by the Robert Downey, Jr. outings in two films, and more recently by Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal in two seasons of the BBC television show "Sherlock."

Episode 39: #BelieveInSherlock

While our listeners normally have to deal with the voices of Burt Wolder and Scott Monty, this episode is different. We're pleased to be able to bring you the smooth baritone of one Mr. David Ian Davies.

Episode 40: One Voice of Sherlock Holmes

Our 50th episode is a fitting one. As you know, a 50th anniversary is typically celebrated with gold. Because we appreciate our listeners so much, we would settle for nothing less than the same.

But our gold comes in the form of a scintillating conversation with the two editors of the Baker Street Irregulars' eighth entry in their Manuscript Series, The Wrong Passage, which is a look at the manuscript of "The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez." Co-editors Andrew Solberg, BSI ("Professor Coram") and Robert Katz, MD, BSI ("Dr. Ainstree") joined us to discuss just what it is that goes into creating a significant piece of scholarship such as we've come to expect from BSI publications of late.

For our diamond jubilee episode - our 75th - we're pleased to welcome Sonia Fetherston, BSI ("The Solitary Cyclist"), author of the latest entry in the Baker Street Irregulars Biography Series, Prince of the Realm: The Most Irregular James Bliss Austin.

Bliss Austin, BSI ("The Engineer's Thumb") was among the first class that was given titular investitures to the Baker Street Irregulars. But he was more than that, as we discovered. He was an accomplished researcher and industrialist who rose to the executive ranks of U.S. Steel; he was a collector of and expert on Japanese art; he was a Sherlockian who was most generous with his time and collection; he was a family man.

Sonia does a fine job of describing the influences on Bliss's life and the many lives that Bliss influenced as well. From budding collectors and Sherlockians to veteran scholars - including the aprocryphal Helene Yuhasova story. She also shared Bliss Austin's firsthand experience with a female interloper at an all-male Sherlockian group.

Discover how Bliss's collection, originally bequeathed to Lehigh University, made its way to the market. Listen to how a collector of Bliss's stature acquires original manuscripts in Arthur Conan Doyle's own hand:&nbsp;The Valley of Fear&nbsp;and "The Red Circle." If you're a regular listener of our show, you may remember that in Episode 76: Out of the Abyss, we chatted with Steve Rothman, BSI ("The Valley of Fear"), Bob Katz, BSI ("Dr. Ainstree") and Andy Solberg, BSI ("Professor Coram") about the BSI Manuscript Series entry about "The Empty House." During that conversation, Bob and Andy excitedly told us about their next project &mdash; a then-unnamed book about medicine in the Sherlock Holmes stories.
Well, this January their book made its debut: the BSI Press unveiled Nerve and Knowledge: Doctors, Medicine and the Sherlockian Canon. Naturally, we invited Bob and Andy to join us on IHOSE for a fourth time to talk about their remarkable experiences putting such a book together. [Previous episodes include episodes 50, 63 and 76.]

As any good editor would, both Bob and Andy proudly discuss just about every article in their work (try as we might to make them choose a favorite), but Andy made a valid point in mentioning that many of these bear rereading and they hold up well time after time. Every one of the essays in the book is original, and the duo does a fine job of sourcing them and stitching them all together.

What's more is our show gets into backstories, give-and-takes, and perhaps even a little gossip about Sherlockians and the book publishing process. There may be a surprise or two in store if you listen in...

Episode 93: Nerve and Knowledge

It's our final show of 2016, we welcome Karen Wilson to the program to discuss a variety of musical associations of hers with Sherlock Holmes. From teaching to composing to performing, she does it all, and incorporates that into her Sherlockian pursuits.

We're treated to one of the best toasts of the year, "Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street," performed for us by Karen. It was inspired by "Alexander Hamilton" from the hit musical Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and it does not disappoint.

Karen shares with us her muse, the creative process, her other inspirations and more in this memorable interview. Plus, a solution for getting kids to put down those pesky electronic devices.
