Greece In Transition - After Papandreou

The Greek gods are known to us through the wonders of Greek architecture, sculptors and literature. The Iliad and the Odyssey were the scriptures of the Greek religion and described the intimate connection between the Olympian gods and the emergence of the Greek nation. In later years the cults of Orpheus and Dionysus won public attention and shifted Greek expectations to images of immorality. In the end, Greek philosophy and Christianity killed the Greek gods.

Rejecting Christian humility and the values of traditional religion, he fought to find a way for human beings to live with dignity. Friedrich Nietzsche - Beyond Good and Evil

One of the most improbable stories in the human saga is how a conquering Turkish nation converted to Judaism and established a powerful Jewish empire between the Caspian and Black seas. For many centuries the Khazars controlled the fertile steppes of southeastern Europe. Their armies intimidated the Christian Russians and the Muslim Arabs. Although in the end, they were crushed by their enemies, they left their legacy in the land which they had conquered. Some scholars speculate that many Ashkenazic Jews of Eastern Europe have their origins among the Khazars.
