Back on Trax a dance floor heater straight from the lab, it’s studio producer extraordinaire James Hurr who returns to Toolroom Trax with – ‘Right Now’. After signing off 2021 with a superhot collaboration with Toolroom’s founder Mark Knight and vocalist Laura Davie on Mark’s ‘Bullets Vol. 5’ EP, James Hurr kept up the energy up by kicking off 2022 with the huge club weapon on Toolroom – ‘Get Up’. Now, James returns to Toolroom’s club focused imprint label with ‘Right Now’, a bumping House groove with a spacious arrangement and distinctive vocal melody that has become synonymous with James Hurr’s production styles. If you’re looking for new names in 2022 then you better check that James Hurr is high up on that list, as an artist he’s single handily building a reputation for releasing consistent, high quality club records that are itching to get the club moving!

What goes around comes around and that is certainly true for our next release on Toolroom Trax as up next, it’s a big room vibe check from Spanish DJ Crusy who is BACK with ‘Karma’. 

Having made his Toolroom Trax debut back in January with ‘Selecta’ & the big room vibe ‘Tell Me’, Crusy is one DJ on a mission in 2022 & one certainly on the right track. Merging Latin esque rhythms & groove with the pumped-up energy you want to hear from a Toolroom Trax release, it might be his third release on the label, but Crusy certainly knows how to deliver a club cut of House music.

Brazil’s Bruno Furlan returns to Hot Creations with his fresh two-track EP, ‘Bongoloco’.  

A DJ and producer whose recent studio endeavours have seen him release material on Black Book Records,  Fool’s Gold and Material, Bruno Furlan is an artist at the centre of Brazil’s recent explosion of names within the  house and tech house landscape. Based in São Paulo, the bubbling talent has built on his early experiences within  the Brazilian electronic music scene to make appearances at global events such as Dirtybird Campout and AMF  Festival. Following an impressive debut on the label with his two-track ‘The Speakers Pump Like This’, late  January brings a return to Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations imprint as he serves up two fresh dancefloor-leaning cuts  across his ‘Bongoloco’ EP.  

“After the first release on Hot Creations, ideas started to boil in my head daily, and I wondered if Jamie  would play every song I started or not. When I started ‘Bongoloco’, it was a very raw groove, and I needed  something striking, a mix between a little crazy and something that made sense in the music. I thought  about adding some percussion, but nothing was good until I came across this bongo and fell in love with  the sound of it on the track. It’s impressive how achievements improve our ideas and performances, and  my Hot Creations debut was one of those. I have no doubt ‘Bongoloco’ only exists thanks to Jamie’s first  ‘Yes’” - Bruno Furlan. 

Title track ‘Bongoloco’ takes cues from its name and showcases a skittering percussion-driven production built for  peak-time hours as warped drum fills and vibrant vocal calls inject an abundance of energy. Keeping things  moving, the rolling ‘Vai’ delivers a slick accompaniment to the package, serving up an anthem built for bustling  terraces worldwide.

Worship Recordings founder Rob Paine reconnects with label stalwarts Lady Alma and Joey Crawford for brooding, soulful cut ‘Love Right Now’, featuring a remix by Philly hero Pete Moss.

Understated and smooth, yet more than potent enough to move a dance-floor, ‘Love Right Now’ features Lady Alma’s spoken word poetry on the subject of love, alongside her harmony-drenched hook. Rob and Joey’s ‘Tech Dub’ sends the tune into trackier, more hypnotic territory, retaining the original’s classy, restrained feel, while Pete Moss summons up a timeless Deep House vibe for his floaty, spiritual reworking of the song.

“Joey (Crawford) and I met over 20 years ago in the Philly house music scene” says Rob Paine. “We stayed in touch all these years and one day he sent me some snippets he was messing around with. The groove of this particular one stood out to me the most. I immediately had some ideas to help take it to a finished state. We called in our sister Lady Alma, who knew exactly what it needed, which wasn’t a full traditional song structure. She created a call and response harmony builder that climaxes into a bridge where she recites a Psalm about love. This definitely had a Pete Moss feel to it, so it was only right to call the big man himself to do the remix. Really loved how organically this whole project came together.”

DJing parties across Philadelphia and holding a residency in New York from the 2000, Joey Crawford stepped away from the DJ life around 2010 to concentrate on production. Never shopping his tracks to labels, or even playing them to anyone, it was reconnecting with Rob Paine that inspired Crawford to share his work. “I honestly make music because it's like therapy to me” says Crawford. “I guess if people dig some of the sounds that come out of my head, I'm on the right path. There is so much to learn about music production, and it was an honor to work with my friend Rob on this first of many projects. I'm glad he talked me into it.”

"So great to be back on Worship with a new remix” says Pete Moss. “We have had many special releases over the years so when Rob asked me to be a part of this project with Alma I jumped at the chance. She has always been such an inspiring artist and a true Philly gem. The project came together nicely I must say, I hope everyone enjoys it.”

We’ll leave the final word to Lady Alma: “‘Love Right Now’ is a syncopated groove with cosmic keys and the mantra reminding the dancer and the DJs to love and let the love shine through to the people, the dancers, the children, THE WORLD”. Amen to that.
