Sobolik is a DJ/producer from upstate New York, working out a bed-bound take on modern percussive club music.

Following their appearance on Flex002 compilation with the track ‘Camille’, Sobolik debuts on Early Reflex with Call, their first EP, containing four melodic and D’n’B inspired cuts, marking a newfound intention from the American producer to put their music out into the world.

The cinematic effects from the overture of ‘Theater Mode’ invites the listener into Sobolik's enchanted space. The track then suddenly turns into a total belter with the entrance of its D’n’B inspired rhythmic session, characterised by a syncopated kick drum and a dub-step influenced bass.

Title track ‘Call’ follows next with its mischievous beat, prolonging the listener’s journey into Sobolik’s world where vocal’s triplets and a savvy use of delay generate a sound-induced psychedelic sensation.

The second half of the EP kicks off with ‘Luna’ which brings the mood into fast-paced and dance-floor oriented territories. Here a bouncy kick drum and futuristic bass sounds build up the tension until the entrance of a melancholy chord progression which sets the climax of the track.

The EP reaches to its closure with ‘Foil’, a slow-paced techno track characterised by an incessant rhythmic session, a swinging bass and baritonal choirs with a tantric feel.

Piloting the ship now is the Colombian-Swiss Luca Durán, head of Akoya Circles label and pana who previously released as Look Like via Clone Royal Oak or Mistress Recordings. 'Noche de Rosas' is Luca's debut on the label, who, from the diaspora, reconnects with Colombian popular and sonic iconography, but this time, taking it into territories of maximum agitation.

In the tracks you will find a bunch of beautiful roses, roses that also cut you, like the collabs in this pack. Parco Palaz joins in featuring for 'Metal Parce', then queen BADSISTA detonates the chaos by remixing them and finally the Hyperdub mainstain, Ikonika, redefines 'Noche of Rosas'. 100% kalidad, pa.

Tied together by syncopated rhythms and broken beats, each producer featured brings their own style, tempo and atmosphere. The first release from this new imprint provides a range and depth that reflects Bristol’s musical versatility, from newcomer Syz whose contribution follows highly praised releases on Only Ruins and Brotherhood Sound System, to some of the city’s newest party starters to rise through the ranks.

The journey begins with Syz and Yushh, both showcasing intricate percussion and delicate melodies that roll with energy over subby baselines. On the flip, Mish brings a chugged out, wobbly techno treasure with hints of dancehall rhythms. Mulengasound then bringing the atmosphere and space, perfect for that warm-up transition and Balouu’s playful Egyptian melodies and strong, Arabesque synth-lines close the party.

All five tracks ooze individuality, yet subtly tie together with influences and sounds of a city that naturally nurtures progressive experimentalism. Pressure Dome’s offering is a fine example of burgeoning collective, with likeminded producers set on an uncompromising approach to the broken beat.
