I recently got my first 2 track reel to reel recorder, as well as warm audio's new AKG D19 clone (a mic the beatles frequently used), so I used this song to test everything out together. I've always really liked the instrumentation of this song, from john's clunky rhythm part to ringo's hi hat swish. 

The WA19 mic used as a drum overhead and on the guitar amp. Vocals and hand claps through warm audio's neumann U67 clone. Shure beta 52a on kick, and just a liiiiiittle 57 (original unidyne model, not shure) on the snare mixed in. Bass was direct in, used my sterling stingray, but tried to play with my fingers on the bar of the fret itself to get a muted sound, close to a hofner.

I also tried a few other silly tricks like turning my bathroom/shower into an echo chamber, and feeding guitars/drum overhead tracks out of a speaker while a mic set to omnidirectional picks up the reverberant signal, as well as a physical plate reverb i crafted by sending snare signal through a small transducer touching a metal plate, then recorded by a small cheap piezo mic.

At some point, I discovered i have a plugin that supposedly aimed to recreate the sound of the EMI REDD desk preamps, so I used some of those on the tracks for a little extra warmth. And of course, mixed to mono, like the original. Weird, unbalanced, stereo mix soon maybe. Pro tools mix bounced to tape, then back in to pro tools. Minimal mastering, just a little bus compression, a little EQ, and a limiter.
