HÖR x Mechatronica: Poly Chain b2b DJ MELL G (27-09-2023)

Earth-shattering techno and intricate textures make up the delicate yet impactful sound of Alienata. The Spanish-born, Berlin-based artist is a self-described “sound obsessive” whose influences span anything from electro, ACID, dub, IDM, dark disco, techno, industrial atmospheres, and strains of sounds from both Detroit and Chicago. As founder of Discos Atónicos, she’s been able to platform and materialise her own influences, sharing music and making a mark.

With an approach to music that often leans towards alternative shades of techno, adding a blend of acid, electro, and old-school vibes, to traditional hard-hitting aspects, Alienata straddles high-calibre artistry, reminding us that techno can be complex, as well as wonderful loud and unignorable - and it's the nuance, and attention to detail, that often makes the most impact.

Ahead of Alienata’s return to the club this weekend (2nd-3rd December), she swoops in for the next edition of our mix series. Episode 027 is a breath of fresh air. That being said, it's a journey that is already taking us mentally into the dark, comforting, audio sanctuary that is our own Room 2 – where you’ll find Alienata smashing out her signature style for a special B2B set with Neighbourhood founder and club regular Tasha during the Saturday night section of our next Continuum.

Strap in for a delightfully alienating journey. Warming, hypnotic techno, a driving industrial tone, and dark, obscure elements.

Mid-Week Melodic 24.08.28 // Progressive Breaks

Dash is a legend in his own right. Since the 90ties he is one of the electronic and urban music scene’s highly respected pioneers connecting the dots of the various moods and stories that breakbeats and its sub genres can tell. Musically influenced by Jazz, Hip Hop, Techno, House and Jungle plus a qualified jazz piano player and conductor alike, he lives and loves rolling basslines, powerful vibes and deepness – mind, body and soul. Hailing from Dortmund (Germany), Dash played out soulful broken beat sounds and basslines with sound-system culture references firstly through the local and nationwide club and festival scene and then across all of Europe on a regular basis even at times when it was not en vogue. You can never pin just one style to Dash – for him it is the love of the moment and the people around him that counts. For 30 years he has helped shape the biggest music festival in his area and is curating a multiplicity of club programs. As the creator of many regular nationwide radio shows Dash provides some of the few artist-led broadcasts on the German and Portuguese FM radio landscape. He is also working as a booker, journalist, lecturer, editor and writer in the context of club culture as well. Dash a.k.a. Steffen Korthals has been voted as one of the top 3 German Drum and Bass DJs 2021 and has been nominated in various categories additionally including a Lifetime Achievement Award. Although Dash is most famous for his open-minded take on Drum and Bass, he has built a widespread reputation for his deep knowledge of Jazz, Downbeat, World Music, Soul, Hip Hop, House and organic genres nearby through his lectures and over 2000 DJ sets in legendary clubs and at various festivals. Dash is also one of the resident DJs of - according to the press - the 100 best jazz clubs in the world, the domicil (Dortmund, Germany). As a member of several music and art collectives and as an initiator of the famous Subport events and resident DJ at several club nights alike Dash continues his unbroken career.

IE #50 Ilectrocast Evidence - Mr RUBINSTEIN

Artem, known as Grid User, is a Ukrainian producer and DJ originally from Khmelnitsky. 

Inspired by the classics of electro and the work of German and American electro pioneers, Artem decided to release his first project on the Greek label Tiger Weeds.
He has since self-released music on various Ukrainian and Western labels. Grid User is known for creating a unique sound that intertwines themes of transhumanism and digitalisation, exploring the connections between the future and the present, as well as the living and the synthetic.

While Artem leans towards a modern interpretation of electro, the influence of old-school sounds is clearly evident in his work. His love for the 808 drum machine, dark synths, and vocoders is an integral part of his musical identity.

Additionally, he founded Connectome Records, a powerful new label dedicated to releasing music that offers a fresh perspective on sound and serves as a tribute to dark electro.

WéMè Records based in Belgium delivers one of our personal favorite mixes of 2018. A killer selection of tracks mixing in acid with rave, dark techno, and all the good stuff thats hard to put in a box. For the unfamiliar WéMè is a Belgium-based specialized record label. Since 2001, the label has produced several records from a variety of styles and artists. Since 2008, WEME Records and First Cask records have coproduced several releases.

Putting out music that turns most electronic heads, with releases from the likes of Ceephax Acid Crew, Meggablockx, and DJ Stingray among others. Everything coming off this label is original and authentic.

For Avenue Red Podcast episode 139 we welcome Leeds-born and bred selector Barry Duke AKA Sputnik. Without doubt he is one the finest electro pilots out there, having a knowledge of the genre that is as vast as his music collection. Technically adept, his mixes are always fluid, free-flowing and exciting strides through the wilderness of true underground electro and techno, both old and new.

"I'm a Leeds-based DJ who predominately plays techno and electro and has spun at various Leeds nights including the much-missed, by those who used to attend, Detatched, Future-Past, Tensile, Bistro Techno and Axiom. I've been a follower of Avenue Red for a few years now and was thinking of creating (or is it 'curating' nowadays?) a Detroit-flavoured mix that would fit in with the vibe I was getting from the mixes I'd listened to. I was hoping Alec would like the mix and host it.

Pre-empting recording a mix on the off-chance, Alec messaged me and asked if I would like to get involved on his podcast. He'd been listening to my recent electro mixes and asked if I'd like to contribute a similar mix for Avenue Red. We are glad to present our 5th installment of our Electro series with a special guest coming from Italy, Urban Distortions' label head:  Massimo  Luciano aka SLAKER.


Massimo is a DJ/Producer  &  sound  engineer  from  Napoli,  he  has always  been  involved  in  music  since  early  80's,  playing  as  DJ  and  inspired  by  Synth-Pop, Electro  &  Disco;  then  attracted  by  synthesizers  &  samplers  he  approached  to computer  music. 


From  the  early  90’s  he  played  techno  for  clubs  &  parties  in  Napoli  and  in  Bologna, where  he  performed  also  as  part  of  the  techno-trio  “RANDOM/NOIZE”  for  their  live set;  and  producing  for  DESIGN  MUSIC  "SYNCSITE  EP"  and  appeared  on  "NEAPOLIS" CDs  1  &  2. 


Back  in  Naples,  in  2000  he  produced  then  the  project  CHAMALEON  “Step  It  On  Up” published by  LE  CLUB/VALE  MUSIC  &  ABSOLUTELY  Records. From  2005  to  2009  he  spends  much  time  in  Thailand  performing  as  a  DJ  for  some  of the  most  renowned  clubs  and  parties  such  as  Black  Moon  Party,  and  many  more. In  the  last  20  years  he  worked  as  a  sound  engineer  for  wide  range  of  music productions,  developing  his  skills  as  a  producer.  


Moved  in  London,  from  2015  he’s running  his  own  concept/label  <<Urban  Distortions>>,  that  takes  inspiration  from  the urban  environment  that  has  influenced  the  electronic  music  scene  and  producers over  the  last  decades  generating  new  sounds  and  new  art  forms. His  label  boasts  several  releases,  including  his  latest  album  "The  Transition",  which has  attracted  international  interest  also  from  the  mithic  Will  Web (Deep  Space  Radio, Detroit), amongst many others.
