Born in the North Yorkshire Moors, the son of a music teacher, and based in Leeds for a time, saxophonist and Dankworth Prize-winning composer Matt Anderson has lived in London since 2015. His first three albums, Wild Flower Sextet, Rambling and The Town and the City, were well-received by the jazz press, with All About Jazz describing the latest release as “a work that focuses on the band's musicianship and the strength of the compositions, while a real sense of spontaneity and enjoyment pervades the recording… Anderson's tenor saxophone tone is rich and warm”.
 
Becoming part of the fertile jazz scene in the capital, Anderson has since performed with artists/bands such as the Gareth Lockrane and Calum Gourlay big bands, Jamie Doe, Hannes Riepler and Ivo Neame. In Leeds, he performed and recorded with many of the city’s top musicians/composers including Jamie Taylor, Jamil Sheriff and Jiannis Pavlidis (in collaboration with Greg Hutchinson), and he has also toured in New Zealand, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. In 2023, he became a D’Addario Woodwinds artist and was also made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music for contributions to the music industry.

Out of the ashes of the David Camerons austerity measures comes a new collective performing stripped-back versions of some of the music from Richard Iles’s Miniature Brass Emporium, as well as new original material. The quartet provides an intimate setting for some of his larger expansive music and a chance to hear the pieces as they were originally conceived. Microscopic is the new miniature version.

As an ex member of the SNJO, Richard has recently performed with Joe Lovano, John Scofield and Gary Burton; Mike Williams is an unsung hero amongst UK saxophonists and this will be a rare appearance by one of our most original players; Les has worked with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor and Ian Ballamy; Percy, best known as a trumpet player, is also a gifted bassist, having recently appeared with Evan Parker and The Claudia Quintet.

Threenil was started in September 2011 by drummer Ric Yarborough. Drawing inspiration from bands such as Mark Guiliana's Beat Music, Alasnoaxis, Octurn and Lidlboj, the group are also hugely influenced by Minimalism, Metal and Post Rock.
