I think it's safe to say that Substrada's consistent work over the last couple of years hasn't gone unnoticed. Enjoying releases on the likes of Locus Sound, Infernal Sounds and Dread Or Dead, the Belgian producer has become one of the more prolific in the genre and the latest imprint to recognise his excellence is FatKidOnFire, who offer him a spot on the vinyl exclusive branch of their catalogue. As the only record of it's kind to come from FatKidOnFire this year, Substrada not only demonstrates his distinctive sound, but also joins up with two similarly talented producers, 11th Hour and Kusmo. However today I have the pleasure of presenting one of Substrada's anticipated solo cuts, 'Predator Flow'.

Recently record label DUPLOC celebrated its fifth anniversary with a few special projects. Now the leading Belgian dubstep imprint returns to its usual 2-track digital series, as they're welcoming back the Leeds based Surreal for DUPLOC036. Affiliated with DEEP MEDi plus Navy Cut, and with notable appearances on both of the previous DUPLOC SELECTS chapters, Surreal now drops two fresh originals which have been in heavy rotation. While "Pique" explores the deeper and moodier side of dubstep, "Indian Flute" bursts of energetic 140 melodies and bass weight. Excellent picks which properly represent Surreal and DUPLOC's sound.

I remember fondly hearing David’s music for the first time. His beautiful haunting vocals and melodies instantly hooked me. I went down a rabbit hole through David’s gorgeous discography. 

His compositions are cinematic, stripped down, cohesive stories that touch our basic emotions. 

When I discovered ‘The World Retreats’ I knew I had to try and do my own club version. I bought the track and immediately started working on it. I was so inspired then that eventually the lead for ‘Her Perfect Sky’ came out of one of the first ideas for this remix.

Eventually I finished the first version and sent it to David on SoundCloud straight away. Without his permission I had taken the liberty to remix one of his own compositions and I was not sure how he would respond to that. 

Thankfully he did like the remix and we kept in touch ever since, that was in 2018.

In 2019 ‘The World Retreats’ is debuting on the highly praised Netflix show show ‘Dark’, David and I aimed to release this remix for free on SoundCloud as a way thank the audiences of both the music and the show and to share our stories with all of you. SoundCloud is where our first connection happened so it made sense for us to come full circle and give it away for free on this platform.
