Lowtemp is singlehandedly bringing cool back to dance music. The internet memes of kandi-coated juveniles throwing confused gang signs and sucking on lollipops fade into distant memory as Gramatik's Brooklyn-based label continues to churn out mature, sensual hits for cerebral, smoke-'em-if-you-got-'em adults.

In that vein, the ILLUMNTR duo of Bryn Austin Bellomy (lead singer of EXMAG) and guitarist John Russell stonily muses on the wreckage of a Prince-led studio session with Animal Collective and Brian Wilson. Hazily flowing through disparate movements of "GULF HYMN," we get a ton of looks around a shag carpeted, crushed velvet opium den housing a harem of unkempt cats. Oozing with sensuality and mayhem, this opus is the second single from Soul Sister, due out on Lowtemp in the very near future.

That's not all, the label continues to push with next week's release of Gibbz' Who Gibbz a F#@$? The debut album from another EXMAG fixture is poised keep the bar high. Keep 'em rolling, Denis.

ill-esha has been a flourishing multi-talented artist, taking the world by storm from her early adventures in drum n’ bass to being a key figure in the glitch hop movement and to the recent era of future bass exploration. What has always been consistent in her music, is the soul and passion the breathes life into the beats. Her career has seen releases on labels such as Dub Police, Muti Music, Sound Plexus, and Street Ritual - and now ill-esha’s 4th full length album, Hyperbolic Space Crochet, will see the light from Philadelphia based label Seclusiasis.

Hyperbolic Space Crochet is packed full of her signature melodic and bassy vibes yet we certainly hear a further evolution of sound from the Colorado based producer, DJ and singer. Theres a great loose jazzyness that permeates the album and one the subtle elements that ties it all together. The opening track “Climbing Jacob’s Ladder” is reminiscent of purple grime sounds and grabs the listener, demanding attention right out the gate. The LPs many highlights include “Dreamtime” with its lush drifting and emotional ride, “Finding Beauty in Frustration” which is driven by funky percussion and punctuated by sultry vocals. The title cut has uplifting raving stabs and a beat that you can’t help but nod your head to. The album comes to a close with “20/20” a moody offering that drips with heartache and serves as the most vocal oriented song on the album.

Amp Live lives up to his title as one of California’s most versatile and prolific producer-DJ double-threats with the release of his album, MZOZO, now available on Gravitas Recordings. The pieces symbolize Anthony’s embrace of the future, as his forward-thinking inclination to eliminate boxes and labels manifests within the eclectic tracks.
