Hello, and welcome back to PFG's Progcast, our weekly trek around Planet Progressive. This week we are back in Brazil, and our second visit finds us searching for new, raw DJ talent that PFG have always been looking for. A group member found him commenting away on a recent live stream and invited him into the group, fast forward a few months, we're extremely proud to give him the stage his talents deserve. Crew, give it up... for M. Beltrame!!

I'm Matheus, a 24-year-old DJ from Curitiba, a southern city between São Paulo (the epicentre of the electronic music scene in Brazil) and Itajaí, where Warung (The Temple) sits. Curitiba has also held great events throughout the year: Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha & John Digweed, Guy Mantzur, Lee Burridge, Lost Desert and many others have played here.

This love I have now for electronic music started in my teenage days, but actually with Hip-Hop. When in middle school, Hip-Hop was my thing, but because I didn't really understand what was being said, the sonority of the beats combined with the rapper's flow was what really got my attention. A couple of years later, Dubstep came along. It was my initiation into electronic music (I swear it sounded cool at the time).

A few years later, a cheap, commercially-orientated deep house genre began to rise in our scene, that was called "Brazilian bass". I loved it. That powerful, leading bass that I had in Hip-Hop and Trap, missing in Dubstep, was back. I guess that was around 2014. That was also really danceable, which I loved. Expressing myself with the body, listening to cool music and having fun with friends was a big, instant positive for me.

Fast forward a few years to 2017 I finally had contact with high level electronic music. It was during the Warung Day Festival, which happens every year in my hometown. When my ears heard Stephan Bodzin for the first time, I was shocked. After him, the legend Hernan Cattaneo took to the decks and my musical taste was changed forever. Progressive House quickly became my favourite genre.

My DJing experience has only been for fun with my friends in house parties. I learned to play with them (we are all self-taught). Together we form a collective called Showcara Records, you can check out our sounds here

PFG Progcast Episode 21 - M. Beltrame

Retired DJ was spinning the progressive house/trance of the mid to late 90s early 2000s aka heavily influenced by Sasha/Digweed. Currently listening to Sound cloud mixes mostly progressive & deep house,  and occasionally lighter melodic techno. I seldom listen to a mix more than once and keep exploring what is new.
