To say we're delighted to have finally secured the services of our next act, would be something of an understatement. In the 5 years since they joined forces, and countless top ten releases, remixes, a new label, multiple radio shows and DJ sets together, its fair to say they sit astride the global progressive music scene today, and the foreseeable future. We know the 3 years it's taken for us to get them here is very much worth it! Ladies and Gents... GMJ/Matter!

Studio success has translated into demand from a constantly growing number of respected festivals and clubs both locally and abroad, highlighted by a European Tour in 2019 with gigs for Progressive Astronaut in London and Replug Records 10 year anniversary at ADE in Amsterdam.
Joining forces in 2020 with https://soundcloud.com/morningafteragency saw an acceleration and springboard of growth towards headlining gigs both locally and on a global scale.

The Progcast - Episode 82 - GMJ & Matter

Well hello and welcome back! Good to see you here on the Il Modo progcast, where once again we do the digging and you do the listening, to exclusive DJ mixes all around Planet Prog! 

For the third week running we return to the Helios VIP Stage of DSCNNCT Festival, that ran on the 1st July this year. Continuing on from Brian Gravel's opener and Leah Marie's floor filler, we shine the spotlight on a DJ whose name will be on everyone's lips before too long. Fresh new talent  from the Anjuna crew, make some noise for Mia Aurora! 

Mia Aurora is a London-based Melodic House and Techno DJ/Producer. Drawing on influences from labels including Afterlife, Anjunadeep and Bedrock, Mia’s DJ sets range from melody driven house and electronica to darker, techno influenced releases.

Mia began her musical journey from an early age, becoming proficient in guitar and piano as well as songwriting and producing. In 2019, she graduated from the Abbey Road Institute following her studies in Music Production and Sound Engineering. 

During her time there, Mia engineered records with artists including Moses Boyd, Poppy Ajuda and Mogli as well as working alongside industry leading producers and engineers.

Quickly finding her sound in the electronic world, Mia has seen a rapid ascent up the DJ ranks, playing at iconic venues across London including Printworks, Fabric, Phonox and Egg London. She’s played events for London-based electronic label Anjunadeep, as well as supporting Yotto, Guy J, Adana Twins and Jody Wisternoff.

Kicking off 2022, Mia has taken her sound global, already playing DJ sets in Dubai and Tel Aviv, with more international shows to come later in the year including Albania, Ibiza and a headlining India tour too....

The Progcast - Episode 177 - Mia Aurora - (Live @ Helios Stage - DSCNNCT)

Hello, g'day and welcome! So happy you can join us for a wee whizz around Planet Prog again on this wicked Wednesday. Bags packed? Passport safe? Then take a seat on our first class flight to another scorching dancefloor destination.

There are few producers in the Progressive House world who command more respect than our guest DJ today, and there's no one as happy as us when we introduce him to you. Il Modo, give it up for the amazing Gab Oliver!

“You just had to be there” is an oft-repeated refrain whenever the “Melbourne sound” – the dark, stripped-down, and gritty progressive house and breakbeat that dominated the city’s dancefloors in the early 2000's – comes up in conversation. 

Gab Oliver created and nurtured a sound that eschewed the big, bold, brash sounds of the late 90’s in favour of a deeper, darker, and more hypnotic aesthetic. In the process he shaped an entire movement that cemented Australia as a creative force in the global dance music scene, and led to the rapid maturity of Progressive house and Breakbeat. 

The legendary party 'Sunny' was the key Melbourne monthly event where punters could regularly hear these new sounds, thanks to the resident DJs being given free reign to experiment musically and the party having a strong emphasis on going against the grain. Without question, the driving force behind the uncompromising deep and dark focus of the event was Gab Oliver.

 “Road testing our tunes at Sunny was the biggest gift of all. That’s all that really mattered, people going off to our music, that was fucking amazing.” The pioneer of the deep and hypotonic sound has recently re-launched the much loved Zero Tolerance label which has given the current Progressive House landscape a shakeup from the mainstream, pointing towards a deeper, darker, and more moody aesthetic. He recently released "Drowning" EP on this label and has also joined forces with Bassiray & Mckeown under the guise "Depth Institute".  

Moody soundscapes, mediated by underlying tension and bathed in darkness, Depth Institute‘s haunted and sophisticated late-night progressive storytelling is uncompromising in every sense of the word. Their debut Remix on Gab's ‘Drowning EP‘ which focused on subtlety and deep textures representing the true ZT sound brilliantly. 

Their follow-up release was a remix of Hot TuneiK‘s ‘Poema‘, a track heavily supported by John Digweed on his recent tour of Argentina, on his Transitions Radio show, and peaked at #2 on the Beatport Top 100 Progressive House Releases Chart.

"I want the relaunched Zero Tolerance to be like it was back when we started it, a place for new artists to make music other people aren’t making. I’ve always had a passion for new music and supporting emerging artists, and I would love to see a new generation of producers given the kinds of opportunities we weren’t by other labels when we started out. The Progcast - Episode 178 - Gab Oliver (Zero Tolerance)

Welcome to Il Modo's Exclusive Series Mix for March 2024.  We are thrilled to bring you a guest mix from the one and only Robert Babicz.

Robert Babicz has been redefining the boundaries of electronic music since the early 1990s. His unique artistry encompasses sound, vision, emotion and spirituality. From releasing and performing acid techno as Rob Acid, to his role as a highly-sought after producer and studio wizard infusing technical perfection with deep emotion, to his striking photos, everything Robert does expresses his desire to celebrate beauty and humanity, and to live each moment with utmost consciousness. Robert's art and philosophy are so distinctive there's a word for it: Babiczstyle.

EVOLUTION
Robert made his first record on borrowed equipment in 1992 and played his first gig on gear he'd never used before. “I had no musical background or knowledge, no clue what I was doing. I just improvised. But for the first time in my life I was absolutely in the moment. And people responded – they loved and accepted me.”  Music was a way to rise above the struggles of daily life (in the early years of his career, he slept on a mattress on the floor of a tiny flat in his home town Cologne, his synths his only possessions) and to share the joy of that transcendence with others. Playing as Rob Acid, he ignited parties with fierce techno played by strict rules: every set was 100% live and unique, he deleted the instruments' programming immediately afterwards.

COMMUNICATION
The power of Robert's performances are fuelled by his lack of personal ego: “I'm not playing the instruments,” he says. “The people on the dancefloor are playing me”. He's never DJ'd (“I have so many ideas, I am always trying out my own music”), packs only “underwear and my instruments”
to go on tour, and has a single goal: to feel the crowd, make people forget their problems and experience pure joy on the dancefloor: “The perfect moment is when they stop caring about their job, and are in the here and now. You can see it on their faces. They let loose of everything and are completely in the present. This makes me happy.”

CRAFT
Robert continuously pushes the boundaries of electronic music as an artist, consultant, teacher, and engineer. Among Robert's more than 1000 releases are seven albums and a flood of tracks for labels including Bedrock, INTEC, Mille Plateaux, Systematic, Audiomatique, K2, Treibstoff, SUGA, Punkt and Praxxiz. In recent years, he has focused increasingly on his own imprint, Babiczstyle, which epitomises his sound, emotions and ethos.
Robert's exceptional sound-design, mastering and studio skills have prompted companies like Native Instruments and Apple to request his help on sound-design projects. He also teaches workshops on production and his music philosophy; and is one of the electronic music world's most in-demand mastering artists. Fellow artistes from across the dance music spectrum trust Robert to perfect the technical aspects of their records while rendering the emotions and intention even clearer.

AUTHENTICITY
Babiczstyle is authenticity in action. Wherever he travels the world, Robert is instantly recogniseable for his music, his warm smile, his energy, and his bright red scarf. “It's a bit like Superman's cape,” he jokes. The difference is, when Robert puts on the red scarf to perform he doesn't become someone else. Robert's superpower is the integrity of his art and vision: “I don't want to be dreamed by others,” he says. “I want to be myself.”

The Progcast - Episode 232 - VoidShift (SL)

Hello Everyone, and welcome on board our first class trip around Planet progressive! You are in tune to our weekly exclusive Progcast, let us be your guide to the hotter dance floors of our scene right now.  

Continuing our search for the DJ's behind the big names, our guest today is a favourite of online shows, and has a residency on two global platforms, spreading the vibes all over the planet, make some noise for Liz Dreher!

Liz Dreher developed her love for dance music in the early 1990’s, listening to house and rave music from that era. She spent many a night out at clubs and raves, including some of the illegal parties prevalent of the time. 

Loving the music and culture of the dance music scene and while travelling all over the UK having incredible raving adventures, Liz began collecting vinyl and enjoyed working in a record shop towards the latter end of the decade. Although she didn’t get behind the decks until the following decade Liz followed her music tastes leaving the rave scene behind, moving more towards the Progressive sounds she first got into from years before.

Being influenced by the likes of Sasha & John Digweed, Deep Dish, Danny Tenaglia and the various Global Underground and Renaissance compilations from the 00’s, Liz began creating her own Progressive house journeys. By the end of the decade, Liz unfortunately sold her technics, but thankfully not the vinyl, and took a break from DJing.

The Progcast -Episode 237 - Electrick Blue

Hello and welcome to the Exclusive Series (with Subcode) featuring the skills and talents of Dublin's unique trio of Electronic music artists, Fusion Underground.

Each month we highlight each of our DJ's Glenn Molloy/Gorgonoize, Soulfinder and Khankra, with a 2 hour set aired every 4th Thursday of the month.

For September and his third show of 2024, it is back to Soulfinder for yet another outstanding 2 hours, packed full of brand new music, unreleased ID's and do check out several specially made edits, from the man himself.

Hailing from Dublin Ireland, Stephen Hogg has had a passion and a love for electronic music from a very young age. Inspired by artists such as Sasha, and other monoliths of progressive house music. Stephen knew it was his destiny to eventually follow in the footsteps of these musical masterminds and carve a niche of his own, as Soulfinder.

Naturally this form was something that his love and passion had evolved itself into, and Soulfinder quickly began to learn the ropes and make a lot of headway in a short time period. before long he had his very first release published on Outside The Box Music (owned and operated by Elke Kleijn). In 2009 he was voted best newcomer as his debut album Wasteland was voted album of the year on Swiss National Radio. That lead him to perform at the legendary Love Festival later the same year.

After many releases hitting the big numbers in various charts, by 2023 Stephen has seen his music released on BlackHole, Spring Tube, Soundteller amongst many other high quality marques.

Soulfinder, with Khankra & Gorgonoize now form Fusion Underground, between them earning many accolades and garnering countless individual and collective projects, in and around the local and international scene. Ste recently headlined two gigs in Belfast, to huge local admiration and fanfare.

Soulfinder has found recent success once more with tracks such as "Frankie" & "Snow Leopard" getting air time from spinners such as Anthony Pappa, Harry Lemon and many more. 

2024 has seen a fresh impetus from Soulfinder, and the rest of FU, looking forward to more exposure on Ireland's clubbing scene.

Mazayr, hailing from the UK, is a master at blending emotions with music. His productions seamlessly interweave uplifting and melancholic melodies, all anchored by punchy, solid grooves. Navigating the realms of organic and progressive house, his tracks are built to stand the test of time.

Mazayr’s connection to music dates back to his youth when he was a dedicated drummer. This rhythm-infused love naturally evolved into a passion for electronic music, and it became a relentless quest to find his unique sound as a music producer. His distinctive style earned him debuts on prestigious labels like The Purr, Flug Lab, Canopy Sounds, Musique De Lune, Nordic Voyage, Suprematic, Stellar Fountain and One Of A Kind.

Mazayr finished 2022 with a bang, landing a #1 Organic House release on Beatport with the ‘Hypose De La Lune’ EP. A debut album, titled ‘My Canopy’, quickly followed, reaching number #2. This momentum carried over into 2023 with a flurry of top 10 releases across Organic and Progressive House.

The Progcast - Episode 239 - Mazayr (UK)

Hello everyone and welcome to the exclusive Progcast from Il Modo, your weekly trip around Planet Progressive. Join us as we traverse the globe in search of the best and boldest DJ Mixes we can find, while delivering them direct to your ears! 

This week sees us head back Stateside, with a veteran DJ returning to the Il Modo decks. Stepping right out of the fabled Florida rave scene, our guest today knows how to smash any dance floor he comes across. Make some noise for Ablekid! 

Ablekid, aka Daniel Moore is a veteran DJ/producer from the Orlando underground. His journey into dance music was as fortuitous as it was inevitable with his introduction to dance music beginning in the late 80's and early 90's with legendary Central Florida clubs like Aahz and Marz. 

After picking up a set of decks in 2000, he started buying vinyl by the crate-load. While honing his skills he began an internet radio show at the Drop Shop in Orlando with fellow DJ, Bert Simmons, and soon, a small following developed. 

Fast-forward to a move to the musical hotbed of Austin, Texas in 2009, the Ablekid moniker had seen success in various forms. Now signed to Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music imprint, along with older releases on Christian Lang’s Kindred Recordings (Paris) and Rapid Fire Records (Miami), Daniel had also fostered many relationships in the community by becoming part of the esteemed Release Promo roster more than a decade ago. 

In 2018 he was tapped to be FRISKY Radio's "Artist of the Week" and afterward was offered his own slot on the esteemed site where his show, Waveforms, has enjoyed over 6 years of success. His continued success in the US underground is a combination of effective crate digging, silky smooth DJ skills and just the right amount of grit and determination. His mixes and productions are the result of all this hard work and show a depth of knowledge and attention to detail. 

2024 will see new music released after a long break from production, and some of the scene's freshest underground talent as guests on his Frisky show, stay tuned.

Gerard Bozyk is a Polish DJ, residing in Dublin, Ireland. With his innovative and forward thinking approach he is never afraid to dig deeper when selecting his music for his DJ sets, radio shows or podcasts.

Gerard has been passionate about electronic music for almost two decades now, and is currently on resident duty with Mareah, a new Dublin collective, through which he has had the opportunity to play along side Alex O'Rion, Ezequiel Arias and the mighty Sasha. 

Back in 2016 Gerard won Decoded Magazine's mix of the month competition. Welcome to Il Modo's Exclusive Series for November 2024. This month we welcome back Shaun Strudwick for his second stint on our platform.  

Shaun has been in love with Progressive house music since the early 1990s. Having taken some time off during the 2000s to raise his family, Shaun has since re-ignited his passion for hypnotic rhythms and enchanting melodies.

In 2016 Shaun began curating his own Deep Progressive radio show called “Quarks & Quaaludes – an Epic House Journey” to showcase the music that he loves: deep melodic progressive vibes that move the mind, body, and soul.

The radio show has provided an amazing opportunity to connect with like-minded up and coming artists in the industry - and has featured many top talents who have since gone on to achieve even greater heights.

Shaun's passion & dedication to developing Saturo Sounds Radio as A&R Manager has seen the station go from strength to strength in recent years - with the acquisition of many global artists alongside up and coming DJs & Producers.

Shaun also lends his talents to countless online music platforms, garnering support for both his and Saturo's platforms across the globe.

In this, his second mix for us, Shaun has concocted an extended session that encapsulates everything about his outlook towards electronic music, blending atmospheric breaks, deeper house cuts and energetic progressive floor fillers.

Enertia-Sound (DJ Twisty & Andron One) are an electronic music act from England. Starting out in 2007, they soon made a name for themselves playing in underground raves and psytrance parties. Their music has strong influences from Psy and Progressive, through to Breaks with driving funky rhythms, rough basslines, epic melody structures and cinematic build-ups.

The Progcast - Episode 242 - Enertia-Sound (UK)

Hello and welcome to the Exclusive Series (with Subcode) featuring the skills and talents of Dublin's unique trio of Electronic music artists, Fusion Underground.

Each month we highlight each of our DJ's Glenn Molloy/Gorgonoize, Soulfinder and Khankra, with a 2 hour set aired every 4th Thursday of the month.

For October and his fourth and final show of 2024, it is back to Khankra for yet another outstanding 2 hours, packed full of brand new music, unreleased ID's, cool classics and a few re-edit's of his own.

Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Khankra’s passion for electronic music started at a young age and has continued to evolve with time. Khankra’s roots have always been entwined in hypnotic grooves, rolling basslines and driving melodies.

At 17 he purchased his first set of 1210’s and from there he began forging a name for himself in the Dublin scene, playing at nights across some of the city’s best clubs like The Redbox, The Pod, the Button Factory, Traffic, Mono, The Chocolate Bar.

After somewhat of a hiatus from the scene, in 2014 Khankra had the opportunity to warm up for industry icon, and personal hero, Sasha at The Button Factory.

Following this, Khankra teamed up with the Melodic Residents and handed the headphones over to some other industry legends during this time, including Nick Warren, Sebastien Leger, Los Soruba, The Drifter and Guy J on a number of memorable occasions.

In late 2019, Khankra teamed up with DJ’s Glenn Molloy, Soulfinder and Ger Bozyk to form Fusion Underground. Since then the group have started the Fusion Underground Mix series, which has had some excellent support across the industry and continues to grow.

Khankra has a number of Production projects in play, adding to his releases already on Compatible Records. We should also expect to see Khankra and some top acts playing at Fusion Underground gigs in the near future!

Our journey today finds us in Barcelona, and the home of an ex-pat Englishman who has a major influence on the electronic music scene. Renowned DJ, Producer, Label boss and event promoter, our guest today has done it all. Please make some noise for Paul Loraine! 

Getting a wide perspective in electronic music is uncommon and often musicians tend to narrow their taste in order to find their sound, but sometimes having a vision beyond that might be the clue to create something memorable and refine what to produce, play or promote. 

By getting closer to Paul Loraine’s trajectory, one can easily understand how the art of being a DJ, producer and a label manager flows into the same pushing direction. From the age of 19 and for 6 years, he had a residency at the infamous Golden Monkey Club that gave him a superb start and the ability to switch and understand all kind of musical genres. 

Lately, his music productions have had a huge impact on the electronic music scene and because of this brought him to DJ at many clubs and festivals worldwide. On top of that comes Rhythm Cult, his own musical project launched in 2014 that has been able to bring together artists, from the likes of Deadbeat, Portable, Dinky and Barem, amongst many others. 

Rhythm Cult has also become Loraine’s alias for releasing new music, such as Brutal, a single released by Sasha on his Last Night On Earth record label. Adding a further string to an already impressive bow, Paul has also added The CultCast DJ mix series to his CV, capturing high end players of the electronic music scene at their best, bringing exclusive set's to his listeners.

Realms W/Gone West on DIFM - Episode Five

Buenos Dias! Yes welcome to the Il Modo Progcast, our weekly globetrotting adventure around Planet Progressive. Serving up the best and most exclusive DJ sets we can find, lets see where we are this week..

Musician, DJ & Producer Marcos Calegari was born in Florencio Varela, Argentina and is now resident of the Canary Islands. From a very young age in his early beginnings in a band, he felt the love for the groove and electronic sounds. In his DJ sets, Marcos transmits energy while roaming around the genres, transiting through deep, melodic and organic melodies, prioritizing versatility and harmony. 

As a Producer, he focuses on creating atmospheres that immerse whoever listens to him, telling a story through sounds and experimenting through various genres, mutating their forms day by day.

Marcos is co-owner of Aware Records and Aware Productions, a record label and event promoter based in Argentina, Uruguay and Spain. It has a great presence in the culture and scene of electronic music, with more than twenty albums released on labels around the world. 

He has collaborated with major labels such as Fantastic Friends, Future Avenue, Musica Gourmet, Snake Beat, Routine Espresso, Eisenwaren and Haliaeetus, to name but a few! Marcos has also had his music played in prestigious places such as Ibiza Global Radio, Ibiza Live Radio, Ibiza BPM Radio and many more. 

In reaching his first Top #1 on Beatport releases last year he reached a significant point in his short but important path, allowing him to gain the opportunity to play in prestigious clubs in his home country of Argentina, as well as leaving his international mark in the Canary Islands and Montevideo. Fourthstate (Alex Braknys) is an Australian-based music producer, DJ, and label A&R renowned for his head-caving DJ sets and progressive breaks productions.

A versatile artist since 2003, traversing through progressive breaks, deep and progressive house, techno, electronica, minimal, and melodic soundscapes. He has shared the decks with some of the world's best DJs, including Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J, Danny Howells, Anthony Pappa, and James Zabiela. Hello and welcome to the Exclusive Series (with Subcode) Featuring the skills and talents of Dublin's unique trio of Electronic music artists, Fusion Underground.

Each month we highlight each of our DJ's Glenn Molloy/Gorgonoize, Soulfinder and Khakra, with a 2 hour set aired every 4th Thursday of the month.

For November 2024, it is back to Glenn Molloy for yet another outstanding two hours, blending a variety of genres in his last online mix for 2024.

Glenn Molloy is a Dublin-based DJ/producer specialising in Melodic House and techno (as Gorgonoize). A fan of the scene since as far back as he can remember, sneaking into his brother's room to listen to rave mixtapes as a kid!

To Glenn, the transition from clubbing to DJing occurred fluidly and naturally, and he soon began to work as a resident DJ for a number of city centre venues, gaining warm up gigs for national festivals, and a weekly radio show on TWO of Dublin’s best underground stations over time.

Glenn is now collaborating with fellow Dubliners Soulfinder and Khankra on an events brand called Fusion Underground and is finally realising his ambitions. He releases multi genre music under his two aliases on OLD SQL, Mirabilis, Pro B-Tech, Opilec, Anomaly, Dissident, and last but not least, the world renowned Perfecto Black, whose owner Paul Oakenfold has also been known to drop Glenn's tracks in his radio shows.

Glenn also has a new release on Lonya's renowned Asymetric label, and has had his tracks featured on the label boss's Floating Point sets, as well as support from Djs like Niki Sadeki for Manual music, and several guest mixes on Frisky too. The future is bright, enjoy the mix!

Hola a todos y bienvenidos!! Yes, you are in tune to our infamous Il Modo Progcast, where every week we transport you to another distant destination on Planet Progressive, returning with an exclusive DJ Mix for your aural pleasure.. 

We continue to mine the seemingly endless rich seam of Progressive House DJ/ Producers from Buenos Aires, landing at the home of another prodigiously talented artist. In such a short space of time, he's found himself on the want list of many a respected DJ, creating tunes for all the big labels .... this is Martin Di Sciascio!

Martin Di Sciascio, DJ and Producer, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He discovered his passion for music at an early age. At the age of 12 he started studying guitar and drums, and thanks to his father he discovered percussion.

After  a few years, he formed bands of different genres but when he discovered electronic music, more precisely Progressive House, he was captivated by the sounds and atmospheres he heard. With this captivation it soon led led him to study music production.

In his short career he has already released music on more than 10 prestigious labels, with support from the elite level DJ's such as; Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Ezequiel Arias, Gai Barone, Dj Ruby, Callecat, Redspace, and many others. 

Martin also has the support of the greats of his local scene like; EANP, Sebastian Busto, Fernando Ferreyra and more. Currently he continues studying and perfecting his music looking for excellence in every sound, and DJ mixes, just like this one!

Delighted to welcome todays guest DJ, and having been introduced online during the pandemic, connecting through the music and its scene and helping in some small but notable part of bringing people together in hard times. Watching his rise up through the ranks in recent years is great to see, my pleasure to introduce Ranj Kaler!

Ranj Kaler’s rise has been nothing short than meteoric. After losing his long standing DJ residency at the start of the pandemic, he used that time stuck in lockdown, to try his hand at music production. Six very short months later he was releasing music for the likes of ARRVL and Four Candles  Keep Thinking label but it was his reworks of Sade and Kate Bush that really grabbed people’s attention. 

Since then he has had a string of releases on labels such as Stripped Recordings, Configurations Of Self, Dissident, Capital Heaven and Foxtrot Alpha. 

Not one to conform to a particular genre, Ranj’s productions meld house, breaks, techno and electro which results in his own sound that has gained his music support and plays from an endless list of DJ’s including the likes of John Digweed, Nick Warren, Hernán Cattaneo and Alex Neri. 

His stuff has made him also a prolific remixer with the likes of  Hooj Choons, Pangea and Laika Sounds, to name but a few , using his skills. To that end, Ranj is currently sitting at number one in Beatstats Electronica Hype artists. Ranj also hosts The Midweek Recovery every week on London Music Radio, and has laid down epic mixes for top platforms like Balance ... and this one, enjoy! :)
