If you consider yourself a connoisseur of heavy bass music, then you’re in for a real treat today with this multi-genre EP from illanthropy.  His debut EP with us a few months ago was extremely well-received, as he delivered a heart-felt, thoughtful take on heavy dubstep, incorporating melodic elements to evoke a deep emotional response in the listener.  He switches gears a bit with this EP, “Manipulating The Abyss”, which shows off his dark, heavy side and proves that he is a serious force to be reckoned with in the heavy bass scene.  This EP reminds us of a cross between Liquid Stranger & G Jones, because it is heavy beyond belief, but at times gets glitchy & trappy in the best way.  Let’s just say we’re over the moon to have him in our WUMP family, because people are quickly learning how talented this guy is and falling in love with his music.

“Manipulation” kicks the EP off with a bang and a womp, starting off with a melody that takes us down the rabbit hole right away.  The build-up ensues with a driving snare, and before it drops you may want to make sure there aren’t any breakable items within arm’s reach.  Yes, it’s THAT heavy.  This is a song that any huge artist, from Bassnectar to Downlink, could drop in a set, and it would be the highlight of the night.  It goes from insanely heavy to a glitchy, trippy breakdown of 808 goodness that melts the brain in the best way.  You’ll be listening to this one on repeat, we guarantee that.

Next, illanthropy shows off his heavy dubstep chops with “Snorkeling In The Abyss”, which is nothing short of a masterpiece.  It will inevitably force your face into a grimace when it drops, as it is just plain RUTHLESS.  For anyone who knows me personally, you know I am rarely at a loss for words.  But right now as I’m trying to describe this song, I realize that there is no combination of words that can accurately describe how much I love it.  So, for all my fellow bassheads: turn up the volume and just LET GO!  Headbang your little hearts out, and send some love to this talented fella, illanthropy.


We’re giving this one to you as a free download, but we’ve also put it on Bandcamp for the audiophiles out there who want to play it out at live shows.  If you find yourself really blown away and loving this EP, we encourage you to go to Bandcamp and throw a few bucks toward illanthropy to show your gratitude.  While it’s obvious that we don’t do this for the money, it is important to support up-and-coming artists when you can, by sending some of that green energy their way.  If you don’t have a few doll hairs to spare, by all means just download it for free.  All that matters is that you find some joy in listening, and we hope you share with your friends!
