(e)STIGMa: At One End of the Spectrum (for 13 Instruments & Fixed Media), presents a descriptive sound journey through the mind of a person with schizophrenic disorder through the 4 stages of this condition: prodromal stage, pre-psychotic stage, active stage (psychotic outbreak) and residual stage (post-emergence). To recreate these stages, it was necessary to do some research, read books, interviews, watch videos of people recounting this condition. The main book used as a support to learn more about this disorder was: "The Center Cannot Hold" by Elyn R. Saks. One of the characteristic symptoms during the active stage is the listening of voices in the mind. To describe this symptom within the piece, some simultaneous phrases were used from the poem "Last Words" by Sylvia Plath, who suffered from bipolar disorder ... The title of this piece raises awareness and alludes to the stigma that exists to certain behaviors and stereotypes of persons with this disorder. Although these stigmas have been gradually reduced, there are still many preconceptions, indifferences and apathy... The work focuses on the description of only few symptoms within the stages of this disorder. The sound world is established by means of the spectral analysis of four sound centers: C - F# - G - C#. These centers establish not only the structure but also the motivic material presented at different sound planes. The musical character will be properly governed by specific symptoms of each of the stages of the disorder.
