PREMIERE: Soul Wun - Limitless [SlothBoogie]

Cult sensation Gloria Ann Taylor, who in the early 1970s laid the groundwork for much of disco, R&B, and modern soul as we know it, sees her posthumous release 'Be Worthy' reimagined by renowned producers Flying Mojito Bros into a euphoric, gospel-piano-house-esque West Coast disco cruiser.

"What an honor it is to have been invited to remix the work of such an important and innovative heritage artist" say the duo. "We wish we'd have had the opportunity to chat with and learn from Gloria herself. This remix is our small contribution and dedication to a towering musical legacy of talent, guts and pioneering genre-crossing. Viva Gloria!"

The record looks as good as it sounds too, with Flying Mojito Bros art-directing a colorful and cosmic reimagining of the original cover via illustration wizard Nick Potts, reflecting the bros’ transplantation of Gloria's soul diva spirit into their own southwestern desertscape dreamworld.

Speaking of which, the pair are still shaking Californian dirt from their boots after a hugely successful recent tour of the golden state – highlights of which include pumping out 100% FMB Refritos to 5000 revellers at Diplo's electronic Honky Tonk at Stagecoach Festival (the country music Coachella), DJing back-to-back with Diplo himself at his album launch and frenzying up the floor for man of the moment DJ Seinfeld – while playing shows to fans new and old across LA, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, Santa Barbara and San Francisco.

A string of popular releases already in 2023 adds further momentum to Flying Mojito Bros' continued rise. Collaborating with honey-bear soul supremo James Alexander Bright, 'Mirage In The Mojave' is an album of reworks on !K7 Records that elevates tracks from the multi-hyphenate artist's back catalog into vibrant disco-chug territory, FMB-style. A sold-out chunky 10" swiftly followed on much-adored imprint Too Slow To Disco, featuring well-received re-edits of Jorge Santana (brother to Carlos) and the Grateful Dead.

With output on Ubiquity, Wonderwheel and Razor-N-Tape, London’s Tigerbalm has truly come into her own production voice recently, bringing forth a colorful vision of tropical influences filtered through modern club sounds. With the Profunda Alma EP, the Tiger focusses her attention on Brazil, coaxing out two gorgeous original songs that pay homage to the sizable impact the country has had on her musical sensibilities.

Profunda Alma features the vocalist Joy Tyson (who appeared on Tigerbalm’s earlier Nina EP), and creates an atmosphere of deep emotional mystique through driving percussion, an insistent bassline and dramatic guitar stabs. Vem Cá goes for a more bouncey retro samba vibe and features the incredible vocals of João Selva, who delivers a hook that feels almost canonical, as if we’ve known it forever.

Ever consistent French producer Yuksek takes Vem Cá straight to the club with his remix, and London upstarts Make-A-Dance deliver two trippy dancefloor takes on the title track to make this record a powerful 5-tracker!

Biography:

Ilya Santana is a name that echoes through the shimmering corridors of electronic music, particularly in the realms of space disco and cosmic funk. Born and raised in the Canary Islands, a place where the Atlantic meets the dust of Africa, Santana found himself drawn to the edges of sound early on—edges where melody could float, and rhythm didn’t have to march. He came up through the analog warmth of the ‘70s and the cold seduction of the ‘80s, and somehow fused both into his own kind of future nostalgia.

His career took root in the early 2000s, not through grand gestures but through consistency—a steady stream of releases that wound their way through labels like Balearic stalwarts Eskimo Recordings and Nang. Each track, a kind of ode to neon dreams and late-night drives, became a testament to Santana’s gift for atmosphere: his music doesn’t just play, it inhabits. There’s a cinematic quality to his work, like he’s scoring the movie of a life that’s never quite real but always feels familiar.

Ilya’s sound is less about chart-topping bravado and more about evocation. It lingers. It hums beneath the surface of memory. Through remix work, original compositions, and DJ sets that feel like journeys, Santana has shaped a career that’s both low-key and influential—an underground luminary lighting the way for those who understand that some of the best music doesn’t demand attention, it earns it.
