FRONT DE CADEAUX REMIXES

Following up on their highly acclaimed debut release from 2020, raster presents Il Quadro di Troisi's »Remixes« album, an eclectic collection of reinterpretations of eight of the group's tracks.
By inviting fellow label artists as well as friends and long-term collaborators to contribute to this, »Remixes« shows a broad spectrum of diversity, ranging from colorful, loop-based renditions by Toulouse Low Trax and Tropicantesimo, to (Italo) disco-inspired versions by Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi and Chloé, to more rhythmical and functional tracks by AtomTM, Dasha Rush and Front de Cadeaux. The album also includes a dub-infused reinterpretation of »Il giudizio« by the artists themselves.
»Remixes« will be out on raster on October 27, 2023 as 2xLP and digitally. The record's artwork was contributed by Spanish graphic designer Alicia Carrera.

Love on the Rocks is very excited to present Sharif Laffrey's "Key Jam A.C.I.D.". 
His first release since the sleeper hit "Turn It Up" was released on Discos Capablanca over two years ago.

"Key Jam A.C.I.D." is The Treasure + The Mystery. Laffreys signature raw edit style is in full effect on this 9 minute proto-dance heater. 

Sharif Laffrey has been playing records and making music for 20 long hard years. Born in Detroit, Michigan - he’s worked on the line checking camshafts for Chryslers & at Submerge for Mike Banks - at the same time.

He toured Asia with Juan Atkins and once had to chase grown man through the streets at night, who had crawled into his living room through an open window.
An active member in Detroit’s early rave scene, Sharif remembers booking all foreign gigs with a fax machine - and would still do it that way, if anybody else had them anymore.
He drove a black Trans-Am from 1990 to 1995.

Acid, tons of random stuff, tough, sexy, lovely, slow. Freak Mode. He is dealing with the fame. More to come. Slowly.

Rock to the Beat Records presents a fresh new EP from exciting pair Otto Riita. It packs a real punch with two originals and fine remixes from Publicist and Front de Cadeaux. 

Otto Riita is a new duo from France made up of Rescue and yugo.solo. Rescue is a respected DJ and producer and radio host who has been active since 2000 and yugo.solo is one of the guitar heroes of the French super band RIEN (RIP), as well as being a member of the crazy duet Câlin. Here they blend their skills to create an odd yet funky spacey disco vibe that is a real collision of worlds. 

The title track ‘Azul Pscina’ is first and is a rugged affair with shooting synths, funky drums and a raw energy that really gets you going. Cosmic melodic explosions and knotted bass guitar riffs brush up with one another and make the whole thing really jump out at you. Next up, the equally interesting ‘Square Dance’ is a deeper affair, with rippling synths and big bass downstrokes taking you far off into the cosmos. It is a musical tune that mixes organic and synthetic sounds with real aplomb. 

Belgian-Italo duo Front De Cadeaux step up to remix and rework ‘Azul Piscina’ into a slow and ponderous, chuggy disco prowler with tumbling percussion and loose drums falling away from the groove. It’s playful and curious and makes way for Argentinian drummer and engineer Publicist to step up to tackle the same track. His version is much more direct and freaked-out with mad synths bringing a tortured feel, industrial sounds adding energy and slap-funk drums driving the whole thing along. 

This is a robust EP of tough disco sounds that are sure to move any club.

Tapan - Ghana (Front De Cadeaux Remix)

It's probably one of my favourite dance tracks and non-Goa trance tunes of all time, a German trance tune by the same people behind Perry & Rhodan.  This tune from 91 spread like wildfire in the European underground, with releases and licenses on Rising High, Harthouse and more. 

It's one of those tunes that instantly makes the hair on my skin rise when I play it, it's sensual, groovy, hedonistic and psychedelic. I have never got bored of it and each and every time I play, people go crazy for it.

Slowed down at 98 BPM to the let the lysergic elements take hold of your body, mind and soul for your extended pleasure.

Transform - Transformation (Ed Isar 98 BPM edit)

The Cosmic Era is a collaboration between Daniel Monaco (aka Daniele Labbate) and Ma Spaventi (aka Marco Antonio Spaventi) friends, fellow musicians and producers. The album is the result of their night jams at Spaventi's Mastering studio. Due to their musician nature the use of Analog Sequencers, Synths and Drummachines was integrated with big live components which can be heard in every single track. Obscure & Cosmic are the keywords to describe this album.
The EP will be released on January the 10th on Emerald & Doreen

The origins of Front de Cadeaux can be traced back to a dating site for bears, some ten years ago. After Maurizio had spotted a Felix Kubin poster on one of Ugo's pictures, the two started chatting. Very much intrigued, Ugo invited Maurizio, who lives in Brussels, to play at a festival he organised in Rome. Shortly thereafter Ugo made Maurizio a resident of his Subwoofer night, one of the first bear parties in Europa that existed outside of the mainstream bear realm.

The two bonded over food of course, over their belief that dance culture is rotting from the inside, and even more over slow, heavy electronic music. You have to picture it: a flat in Brussels, a table with empty bowls and bottles, thick smoke and these two daddy dj’s listening to stacks and stacks of UK rave and breakbeat records on 33 instead of 45 rpm. Testing how deep and sexy these garbage records sound at a pace the bears can actually follow without dropping dead – Ugo & Maurizio baptised it ‘supreme rallentato’.

During those early encounters, their decade long dj experience merged into one, just like their vision that dance culture urgently needs a revolution. To them that means playing 90 bpm in a club at 3am whilst the promoters are shitting themselves, showing everyone that the body follows the groove, and not the bpm, a capitalist and macho construct that’s making crowds go numb instead of making them dance.

Around 2013, they officially started collaborating as Front de Cadeaux, referring to the Italian way of pronouncing Front 242, the Belgian EBM legends. “Le pédé BPM” (the bpm gay), their first release, followed one year later, with a Fabrizio Mammerella remix that kind of became an anthem in some circles. It's at the same time a celebration of their love for a slower groove as it is a queer manifesto, dissociating themselves from the mainstream gay culture in big cities, dominated by a horrible attitude and bad taste both in music and style. Second single “Infodrogue” came about after the drug line Maurizio worked at, stopped operating after midnight. Backed up by a bubbling bassline, it's telling the sad tale of a junk calling in and no-one answering. The references to culture and real life are everywhere, be it in the track titles of later releases – “Ouvre ta bouche” is a joke about Kate Bush, “Cogitate” a hommage to lsd wizard John C. Lilly – or their sound, which is impregnated by psyche music, mushrooms, dub, triphop and space rock.
Coming hot on the heels of the collaboration ep with long time friend Fabrizio Mamarella earlier this year, featuring their two oldest singles appearing on vinyl for the first time, came Front de Cadeaux’ new 12” on EMET records. “We slowly rot” is a manifesto and an epistemological breakdown of standard, empty club music, for in order to reconnect with what it should be about, our whole idea of dance music has to be deconstructed. As Front de Cadeaux militantly puts it: “every act of the human being is about transformation through destruction”.
