In February of 2011, Guitarist (at the time drummer) John Deaton and guitarist Kyle Davis set out to start a metalcore band acquiring members Logan Adams and Cody Stewart for vocals, Kyle Kittel for guitar, and Nathan Greene for bass (Logan and Nathan coming as a package deal from their former instrumental project, Point Blank). The band would soon be known as When The Sky Burns. Soon after, Stewart was removed from the band and Logan took over all vocal responsibility. Months later, Kittel would leave the band, leaving the group as a four piece for quite some time. After a few shows as a 4 piece, the band decided they needed a more full sound and personal friend (and excellent metronome) Ethan Taulbee was invited to play drums. With his addition to the band, John returned to his original instrument, guitar. Since then, our ideas as to what we wanted to play had changed noticeably leaning towards a more technical sound as we've matured as a band and found our calling that interests us most. The lineup had remained the same since and as of our recent change of heart as to our musical goals, Jim Farmer (formerly from Christian rock group Crusader) was added to the band as a 3rd guitarist. We've recently been on a music writing hiatus to return fresh with new music and therefore a new feel. Recording will begin in the Fall and we will be returning to the stage in early 2013.

CARRETERA AL SUR

Grupo formado en octubre de 1988, en Lima-Perú. Durante fines de los 80´s y la década de los 90´s se presentó en diversos locales limeños tales como el Donatello de San Isidro, La Estación de Barranco, la Taberna de 1900, La Noche de Barranco, Delirium, Medirock, entre otros; y en eventos tales como conciertos benéficos, festivales de Rock y otro tipo de eventos en la U. Católica, U. De Lima, U. Del Pacifico, U. Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, etc.

Desde sus inicios, el grupo se ha dedicado a la composición de temas que responden a un estilo propio enmarcado dentro del Rock. Tiene influencias diversas, desde Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanés y Sui Generis; pasando por El Ultimo de la Fila, Duncan Dhu, Enanitos Verdes y Héroes del Silencio; hasta grupos como Iron Maiden, Rush, Led Zeppellin, The Police, Def Leppard y otros.
El grupo no deja de lado la interpretación de temas de otros grupos que se adecuen su estilo  para matizar sus presentaciones.

Carretera al sur cuenta con un repertorio de más de 40 temas propios, parte de los cuales fueron publicados en los siguientes álbumes:  
•	Carretera al sur (1993)
•	El sitio de uno (2012)

En la actualidad la banda ha vuelto a los ensayos, preparándose para futuras presentaciones y grabar nuevas producciones.
