Alabama-born Juli Crockett is a bona fide Renaissance woman: singer, songwriter, playwright, theater director, retired (undefeated) professional boxer and amateur champion, ordained minister with a PhD in Media & Communication, and leader of the alt-country/Americana genre-defying band The Evangenitals.

As a playwright/director, Crockett is best known for her adaptations of classic works of literature and philosophy. Her work has been presented at the REDCAT and 24th Street Theatre (Los Angeles), TENT group (Portland, Maine), and Red Room (New York); festivals: Downtown Film Festival's Sustainable LA and Edge of the World Festival (Los Angeles), Los Angeles Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Venue 13, Scotland.)

In 2013, Juli received her PhD in the Philosophy of Media and Communication from The European Graduate School. Her dissertation, "Void Creation: Theatre and the Faith of Signifying Nothing" was published by Atropos Press. Crockett also received a BFA in Theater at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and an MFA in Directing at the California Institute of the Arts.

Her music career centers on writing songs and performing with her bands The Evangenitals. Founded in 2003 with her best friend Lisa Dee, the Evangenitals have produced 4 albums and frequently tour the US. The band has received notable media attention for their singular brand of "hillbilly truckstop lullabies" and continue to contribute a unique presence in the neo-folk/freak-folk movement. The band's music has been used in several films, theater productions, and is currently in rotation on radio stations worldwide.

Unique to her career, Crockett was a professional boxer who was featured in Sports Illustrated, US News and Music Connection Magazine due to her professional connection to Jerry Boyd (aka F.X. Toole) and the film Million Dollar Baby. Crockett retired professionally in 2002, undefeated at 3-0 (2 KO's).

The Avant-Americana 9 piece sound more like they hail from a rural Appalachian psychedelic dream than Los Angeles, which can be credited to in part to Juli Crockett’s vocals and Zappa-esque sensibility. Unburdened by genres, the band was founded in 2003 by playwright/director Crockett and opera, jazz and gospel singer Lisa Dee, originally as a joke, but they were too damn good to not take seriously.

“The harmonies between Juli Crockett and Lisa Dee are like the Andrews Sisters re-imagined as tragic mermaids,” said LA Record. 

The Alt-Country band have recorded 4 albums, including Moby Dick: or, The Album (Fluff and Gravy 2014), which No Depression described as “manic, diverse, unusual and creative songwriting and delivery at its best.”

They’ve played all over the world, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Lightning In A Bottle and The Melissa Etheridge Cruise. 

Joining Crockett on guitar is her husband, Michael Feldman (Cousin Junebug), on keys, Joey Maramba (John Cale) on bass, Andrea Baker (The Moth Mainstage) on fiddle, Cody Farwell (Goodnight Cody) on guitar/lap steel, Danny Graziani (DoSomething) on viola, electric mandolin and harmonica, and Rob Shaffer (Ninja Academy) and Nick Stone (Pixarmonic Orchestra) on drums and percussion.
