Ever since a very young age, Duvane "Phats" Whilby has been influenced by the arts in so many ways. he learned to play the drums at the age of five and continued to learn other instruments like the piano, bass and guitar in the years to come. His musical roots come from growing up in the Church were he learned from his musical family and was frequently taught the importance of music. Duvane began composing and writting songs at the age of eleven and has continued to grow in both areas. His musical influences range from old jazz and blues to gospel and ealy soul records. His modern influences come rom contemporary christian music, hip-hop, r&b and country music. His eclectic taste of music has helped to develop his sound and will continue to.

Among some of the artists that have inspired his sound are people like Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Musiq Soulchild, PJ Morton, Justin Timberlake, and a very long list of greats that have been responsible for hits in the last 50 years or so. "I want to make music that's honest and speaks from the heart of a young christian. I want listeners to relate to the highs and lows of my experiences and ultimately see my love for Christ and my graditude for salvation. The more transparent and and open, the better"-Duvane says about the lyrical content of his music which would traditionally not be considered faith based at all. "There are some people who will never go to a service and sometimes just want to see that christians are just as human as everyone else. they go through rough times, they fall but many get back up because of the hope in Christ and the power of his spirit. Being honest about failed relationships, moments of sadness, joy, peace, and many mistakes made along the way, will help others see that God's love goes beyond any flaw and is available to all who repent and accept him". 

Duvane is the son of Tyrol and Sheryl Whilby. His father is the pastor of his home church, Born Again United in New Rochelle, New York  and his mother is a minister. Duvane can be found there just about every week as he plays in a band that has a roster of independent artists such as Tae Edwards and Nate Conscious. His older brother O'Dane is the lead singer of the indie band Cardinal Theory, a band that Duvane is also a part of. Duvane has had the opportunity to perform in heralded places such as Carnegie Hall, The HardRock Cafe, BBKings and Eddie's Attic in Atlanta. His single "Cancer" expresses the idea that holding on to the pain caused by another can be "cancerous" to our hearts and the courage to be healed and move forward comes from Christ and the strength he provides. the synth heavy progressions sound like a Usher and Ryan Leslie collaboration respectively.
