Chicago-born, Nigeria-raised and Grammy-nominated twin brothers Taiwo and Kehinde Hassan are better known as @ChristianRich, the producing force behind tracks by Drake, Earl Sweatshirt and Childish Gambino. Total space cadets, the duo take inspiration from sci-fi writers like Philip K Dick, and it shows. Taken from their FW14 LP (out 21st August via Lucky Number Music) the impressive lead single Compromise enlists the otherworldly talents of Sinead Harnett, Gold Link and Secaina Hudson on a sexy, housey mission to Mars. It just goes to show that when five stars collide, their musical energy explodes in a supernova of wow.  Hit play and gaze deep into the stunning artwork as you say goodbye to gravity and vow never to compromise again.

'Garv in May' is a melodic, deep and gentle start, building in texture with soulful vocals throughout. 'Somebody Tell Me' is the high energy climax of the release, driven by a groovy and rhythmic funk sample before 'Momoko Island' brings the intensity down to somewhere in between the previous two.

The debut single from new Bastard Jazz signee Bad Colours, “Cookin’” is a three-minute heater that’s just begging to get the dancefloor fired up (even if it’s on Zoom, for now). Produced in isolation, the track channels OG hip-house energy with a chopped and looped vocal sample, funky, meandering bass line, and atmospheric pads; a saxophone solo concludes the song on a soulful note, while the four-on-the-floor kick and swung hi-hat make for a perfect shuffling beat. The single pack also includes the instrumental.

Bad Colours is the moniker of London-born, Maryland-raised, Brooklyn-based DJ, songwriter, producer, and instrumentalist Ibe Soliman. The new project came about while isolating at home in Flatbush during the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by some rough ideas, instrumental loops, and vocal samples that friends sent him, Ibe focussed his attention on music and had quickly compiled more than enough tracks for a full-length release. Known for his residencies at some of New York’s top venues, Ibe has been rocking crowds as a DJ for over a decade, and has shared the decks with the likes of James Murphy, Mark Ronson, and Q-Tip. He’s performed alongside Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Pusha T, and Young Thug, to name a few. In high demand as a private party curator, he’s helped set the tone for Jeff Koons, FKA Twigs, Justin Timberlake, Travis Scott, and Usher. When Ibe’s not behind the decks, he’s in the lab, where he’s produced for Kendrick Lamar, Faith Evans, Keyshia Cole, and Rick Ross, among others. 

“Cookin’” is the first single from an upcoming full length project to be announced on Bastard Jazz Recordings.
