A History of Ireland in Objects
Fintan O’Toole (Journalist, Literary Editor, and Irish Times) explores how artworks and objects reveal the paradoxes and complexities of collective identity and provoke important questions of our past. O’Toole draws on his Irish Times series 'A history of Ireland in 100 Objects', in which to show how neglected or lovingly restored objects manifest the evolving representation and perceptions of Irish history and culture. 

This talk too place on 16 December 2014 at IMMA and was programmed in conjunction with IMMA exhibition Trove.

Lunchtime Lecture | Fintan O Toole

This discussion addressed the key factors that determine the objects we choose to collect for our national collections in relation to the exhibition Trove. This discussion was chaired by Catriona Crowe (Senior Archivist, Special Projects National Archives of Ireland). Panelists included Christina Kennedy (IMMA), Nigel Monaghan (National History Museum) Anne Hodge (National Gallery, Dublin) Clodagh Doyle (NMI - Country Life) and Nessa O’Connor (National Museum Ireland).

Roundtable Discussion | Collecting for the public

Sarah Glennie, Director of IMMA, gives us an introduction to Dorothy Cross' exhibition, Trove, which is running until the 8 of March 2015. IMMA invited Dorothy Cross to delve into the Collections of IMMA, Crawford Art Gallery, National Gallery of Ireland and the National Museum of Ireland. The resulting exhibition; Trove, showcases the extraordinary depth of the National Collections in one unique and very subjective presentation.

Trove:: A Brief Introduction from Sarah Glennie, Director of IMMA.

Dorothy Cross and Lisa Le Feuvre (Head of Sculpture, Henry Moore Insitute, UK) discuss how artist-curated exhibitions open up new ways of looking and thinking about art. The speakers reflect about how an exhibition like Trove offers new and unexpected approaches to exhibition-making, as well as giving special insights into Cross's  preoccupations as an artist.
