Last week, we published a premiere of Kemback's ethereal remix of Kim Brown, a Berlin duo with a name that one would think belonged to one person. This week, we have the exact opposite - a scenario where we are premiering a track from Moff & Tarkin, a group that sounds like a duo but is actually just one person.

That one person turns out to be Magnús Felix Tryggvason from Iceland. When he's not busy using his name to make references to fictional Star Wars characters, he spends his time DJ'ing around Europe and releasing music on taste-making labels such as Neovinyl Recordings and Lagaffe Tales. His latest track titled Lakkrís (which means licorice in his native tongue) is set to come out on the latter at the end of October as part of Chapter 3 of the Tale of Tales compilation series. Featuring originals from Neovinyl Recordings label head Carlo, Ari Bald from the Swedish Klubbhuset and their very own Jonbjorn, the theme of this compilation is a farewell wish to the summer, a sort of reminiscence of the good times, with good friends and summer grooves.

Therefore, it's only fitting that Moff & Tarkin's contribution to the EP is named after something that is so bittersweet. Throughout the piece, the producer utilizes divergent elements of laidback disco and acid house to create a tune that sounds as if two forces are colliding - one that's warm and welcoming and another that's cold and subdued.

Malin Genie delivers his debut LP ‘Anthropomorphic Sympathy’ via his own Malin Genie Music imprint this September, comprising fourteen tracks from the Dutch artist.

Amsterdam born and based Malin Genie’s output both alone and as part of collective trio Mandar has seen him gain worldwide recognition as a purveyor of raw and emotive house, techno and other electronic styles. Here we see the producer stepping up to deliver his debut long player via his own Malin Genie Music, a foray into isolated sonic explorations as he explains –

Malin Genie: ‘’At the time of making this project, I chose to do so in a comfortable way, utilizing the tools I am most familiar with and most accustomed to. I created a place where I would isolate myself socially, having no interactions other than with a selection of instruments. Socially isolated people seem to be more sensitive to the presence of others in the environment and are more likely to endorse anthropomorphic beliefs about objects. Since direct observation of intentions and desires is only possible in the self, and otherwise they are inferred based on observable properties of the target, what does and does not experience mental states is at best an educated guess.’’

Across the album Malin Genie collates a collection of cuts encompassing his broad range of influences, from ambient/new age tinged tracks like ‘For Edmond Bellamy’, ‘Singularity’, ‘Korwar’ and ‘Lived II Time’ and hazy house cuts like ‘You’ and ‘Sopine’ through to more dynamic, detailed electronica in ‘-*-‘, ‘November Subitizing’ and title- cut ‘Anthropomorphic Sympathy’, as well as a nod to more minimal aesthetics in ‘Dimlove’.

‘Anthropomorphic Sympathy’ stands as a true representation of Malin Genie’s experiences in electronic music throughout his life, intricately weaved together to create unique listening experience.

Makèz (formed by Jan-Willem Mulder and Kees van ‘t Klooster) are a duo from Amsterdam, where they both studied music production and sound design. Apart from DJ’ing under various aliases, they’ve also been organizing their own successful intimate party series “Peak Mystique” and that’s where we got to meet them. It was hard not to get infected by their musical enthusiasm and after a few listening sessions and some help of Fouk’s Daniel Leseman & Hans Peeman for the final mix-down, we were all really happy with the music they produced for Heist.

Their ‘Different Planets’ EP sees the duo navigate between disco flavored house, dreamy electronics and old school Chicago influences. The remix is by none other than Belfast based DJ and founder of Body Fusion: Bobby Analog.

The title track is a warm house bumper with an Italo-tinged bassline, filtered leads and fuzzy Rhodes chords. Female chants running in the background and an ‘eyes-closed-hands-up’ break down give this track a proper summer feel-good attitude. We know, cause that’s exactly what happened when we played the first demo of this track last year at our sunrise set at one of the coolest festivals in The Netherlands: Wildeburg.
