SOUND ECHOES, LISTENING SPACES
La Rada – 30.03.24 – 27.04.24

(Tumulte) is a sound and visual installation by Juliette Henrioud that aims to question its environment and stimulate introspection. By combining these two mediums, the intention is to illustrate the search for inner peace amidst turmoil. The visuals and sound piece come together to offer a personal and intimate interpretation of the emotions felt during a period of obstacles. The
chosen title aims to express the delicate balance as well as the strength of this phase of reconstruction, an in-between stage where all possibilities exist, and anxieties are present. With inner echoes and murmurs, (Tumulte) invites you to examine your shifting thoughts and experiences
in order to find yourself.

The sound piece features field recordings, melodic layers, and a text from the diary of the artist David Wojnarowicz titled «seeing myself seeing myself sitting by an open window.» The aim of the piece is to depict the inner struggle in the pursuit of personal peace. The various textures and words used in the composition attempt to illustrate this inner turmoil.

The paintings aim to portray this never-ending and challenging movement of
thoughts and inner turmoil.

The carpet provides an opportunity for the audience to sit and listen to the sound piece.

“Dying Lumen (Flickering Hope)”
A slow descent into dimness—where light still exists, but only as memory.
The piece unfolds like a shadow stretching across time, carried by deep, sustained tones and barely-there harmonics.
There is no climax. Only the gentle unraveling of something once certain.
What remains is a feeling: not absence, but the fading trace of presence. A mournful hush, suspended in sound.

Dying Lumen (Reignite Ver.)

In these uncertain, transversal times,
as I watch the ship slowly sink,
a quiet detachment from the sun prevails.

Trapped along this path,
I wander in thought—unraveling, reweaving—
wondering if the ship will rise again,
if it will ever float once more.

I take flight toward a crude beginning, ticketless,
with a destination made of all the things I miss.

In my small garden of flowers,
which at times consumes most of my days,
I trust that all those lost things will flourish anew.

For now, I water this moment,
hoping that what I tend
will carry me through this ship-bound flight.

Immersive love is a nostalgic tribute to the times of 2000s and the Netlabel scene. Back then independent musicians and music producers, used the internet to distribute their music without the intention of making a profit. They allowed other artists to use their music for free, which allowed them to express themselves without the constraints of the music industry. This passion for music-making spread to other musicians and listeners, leading to the formation of a network of labels and blogs that formed communities of individuals who created, shared, reviewed, and published the music of independent artists. However, the rise of social media and streaming platforms with algorithmic models led to a decrease in creative freedom and marked the end of this period.
