The Weight of Silence

In the hollow hours where shadows creep,
I sit and watch the world fall asleep.
The walls hum low with a muted groan,
A reminder I am utterly alone.

The clock ticks on in a cruel, slow dance,
Each second cutting like a sharpened lance.
Memories rise like ghosts in the air,
Their whispers weighted with despair.

The streets are empty; the sky turns gray,
As though the world has lost its way.
The trees stand bare, their limbs outstretched,
Scarred by winds that have long since left.

I trace the cracks on the floor below,
Mapping the paths of all I’ll never know.
Dreams I buried, love I let die,
Truths I ignored, and reasons why.

Each star above seems further away,
Their light a mockery of the day.
For what use is hope in a world so stark,
Where the brightest things dissolve in dark?

The echo of laughter, now long decayed,
Leaves a bitter taste of debts unpaid.
The promises made, the words unsaid,
The weight of the living among the dead.

I reach for solace but find none near;
Just the gnawing bite of a deep-set fear.
What if this silence is all I’ll find—
An endless void to match my mind?

So I close my eyes and let it be,
This crushing tide, this endless sea.
No anchor holds, no lifeboat sails,
Just drifting through life’s fragile veils.

Perhaps, in time, this ache will cease,
Or I’ll slip beneath and find my peace.
For now, the silence is all I know,
A suffocating, relentless woe.
