 If we understand the significance of how important the recitation of the Quran is, it will help us understand why what Meauvelle Tate does is so unique.  Not only has she been reciting the Quran for the past twenty years underground, she has been reciting the Islamic scriptures in a melodic tone in English.  To our knowledge, she is the first woman to do so in the United States and the reason she has been doing it underground until recently is because woman were not allowed to recite the Quran in public.
