I recorded this episode live about 2 hours after getting back from Camp Bestival, my first festival in exactly two years. I was absolutely exhausted so I’m not at my chattiest (probably a good thing!), but I decided to open the show with the absolute banger that is The Spirit by Mighty Mouse, simply because I heard it and danced to it a couple of times over the weekend. That’s right - danced! Dancing’s back, and boy did it feel good! I also mixed up tracks from Dr Packer, Probably Shouldn’t, Mannix, Andy Buchan and a new freebie from myself.

In the second hour It’s my pleasure to welcome back the talented and amazing Wahine. Lauren was a guest on my show way back on Episode 19 in early 2020 and since then, despite covid preventing us ever meeting, we’ve become good friends and spent many hours enjoying music together thanks to the power of internet radio shows and chatrooms. Lauren has impeccable taste in music and is an excellent DJ, but above all else is a wonderfully positive, warm and supportive soul who is always willing to help or offer advice to anyone. The world needs more people like Lauren. 

Lauren’s first appearance on the show was before I started asking for exclusive mixes, so her mix was taken (with her permission) from one already on her soundcloud. So this one is her first exclusive! As you’d expect from Wahine the track selection is flawless and the mixing silky smooth, but the vibe is perhaps a bit deeper than I’d normally expect from her. I like it a lot though, it’s sultry, classy and very funky - it just shows how versatile she is as an artist. Huge thanks to Lauren for a stunning mix!

After a “little” break of several months, autumn has brought me back here, shedding the laziness that accompanies me with the high summer temperatures. Life always in constant change!
We start the new season with a mix in my favorite style: slo-mo & mid tempo disco soul (and a bit of Deep, Nu Disco…Eclectic is my way). As usual the bpm goes up as the end of the mix approaches.

Black Light Disco was back on the myhousradio.fm airwaves with a station team up that made Godzilla v Kong look like a pair of old ladies swinging handbags in a supermarket. 

Your host for this week is Esteban, who was preparing the posh plates and cutlery and rolling out the red carpet for our special guest this week, Wahine! 

Wahine (pronounced wah-hee-neh) is co-host of a show  myhouseradio.fm listeners will be more than familiar with, our sister show - Spin City. 

Wahine’s star has continued to rise since winning the Defected Croatia mix contest in 2019  - making her international debut at the boutique festival put her on the radar of many following a 10 year hiatus from DJing.

In addition to contributing guest mixes to many important shows in the genre, including Disco Deviance, NDC Radio, and Disco Daze, she also writes a guest column for the #3 house music blog, LeVisiteur.com, and kicked off an interview show for Only Good Vibes in 2021 focused on US-based talent.

Wahine’s sound can be described as “Disco in Paradise”—sundrenched and full of tropical influences, matching her Hawaiian moniker. Funky licks are spiced with percussive jams with both equal parts brains and brawn.

This year she began her foray into music production and her early mashups have been receiving support from this show and a

Wahine is launching her first international tour with dates already confirmed in Glasgow, Liverpool, Warrington, London, Leeds, with more cities to be added soon. And if that wasn’t enough, she is also embarking on her first tour of Mexico in January 2022. 

There is literally nothing this woman cannot do, and we’re delighted to have Wahine on the show for her BLD debut!

This week's Spin City show, that aired 16.01.2022 on myhouseradio.fm saw me on hosting duties. I played the first hour of the show and started/finished my set with tracks from the amazingly talented DJ/Producer Juan Vargas aka Sould Out, who tragically passed recently. Rest In Peace, Juan.

No doubt Javi Frias is one of the most respected dj´s and producers in the underground disco scene, that’s why we are thrilled to feature him.

Javi is loaded up with festival gigs, making edits and reworks, current resident at Discotizer (Madrid), and on top of that, he runs his own label NightShift Records. Phew!

I've been jamming on this in the car and I can't recall 100% why I never posted it up. 

I think this may have been a night there was a touring band in the adjacent room that was suppose to stop at midnight when I started but for some reason they went on til 12:30 or 1 am.  Because of that there was some significant low end noise creeping into the room I was playing  in making it difficult to mix for to long for the first 1/2 hour or hour (especially when someone one would open the door to that room).  I think that may have been it or i was just being anal about the mix.

Hailing from Scotland, Goz has been DJ’ing for over 25 years and in that time has embraced a number of genres from house, hip hop and soul to disco and funk. In the early 1990s he was introduced to the art of mixing vinyl records and from that point forwards, Goz immersed himself in the art of beat matching and building sets - crafting his unique style throughout the 1990s where he would play local parties and get-togethers and, of course  - the all-important pre and post-night out shenanigans.  

After taking a break from DJ’ing in the early 2000s, Goz picked up the reins once again in 2014 and got back to doing what he loves most. Goz has always had an exceptionally diverse taste in music, although he naturally gravitated towards disco, soul, funk and hip-hop genres. 

Goz’s passion for music shines through in his sets, which are carefully curated and crafted to take you on a journey that always leaves you craving more. As one of the most renowned specialists in slow-mo and laid back grooves, when Goz decides to drop down the gears he creates a ‘soundscape’ experience few DJs on the scene can achieve. Similarly, when the disco juices are flowing, and the BPM is cranked up it’s a roller coaster ride and swirling haze of funky basslines, heavenly string arrangements, Afro beats and soulful smokiness. 

As host / show runner of the hugely successful Spin City which airs on New York’s number one House Music Station, www.myhouseradio.fm for a number of years now, Goz has built an extensive and strong follower base who regularly tune in to the two hour show which airs every Sunday at 7pm GMT (2pm NYC). The format of Spin City is a certified winner - with Goz normally presenting the first hour of the show followed by a special guest mix each week. On occasion, Goz will take the whole two hours to treat listeners to prime selections of new, old and classic tracks.  Some of the biggest names on the disco and nu-disco scene have appeared on the show, which has also secured talents such as John Le Visiteur, IMFROMULL, DJ Wahine and Queen & Disco for bi-monthly and quarterly residency spots. Goz also has a keen eye for up-and-coming DJs and producers - spotting undiscovered talent early and giving them a platform to showcase their skills.

During the summer of 2019, Goz teamed up with a group of like-minded DJs and producers to form a new promotion - Black Light Disco. The first Black Light Disco event in June 2019 was an enormous success and has gone on to land its own radio show which also airs on MyHouse Radio FM every Monday from 7pm - 9pm GMT (2pm - 4pm NYC). Since the show started in January 2020, its reputation has grown considerably and BLD now attracts some of the biggest names on the disco and nu-disco scene for guest spots. In May 2020, Black Light Disco formed a partnership with the excellent Samosa Records and Daje Funk Records to present a monthly residency on the MyHouse Radio platform, with label head honchos Les Inferno and De Gama taking over the show for the whole two hours. Airing on the second Monday of each month, The Samosa Funk show is already taking the disco world by storm -the partnership with BLD really taking things to the next level for the promotion. Going forward, Black Light Disco has a number of live events planned, so watch this space for the most up-to-date news on where one of Black Light Disco’s now famous nights will drop next!
