This episode of the Black Light Disco show is dedicated to the life, music and memory of our good friend Stephen Richards, who sadly passed away on 8th November 2025. 

So much has been written and said about Stephen since the tragic news broke - so many individual stories of how he connected people and gave a platform to a host of producers, artists and DJs out there who otherwise may not have had their voices heard or their talent recognised. With a brain wired for deep dives and left turns, he brings a ‘Hyperfocus meets Heart’ approach to digging. The result is sets packed with surprises - forgotten disco gems, modern bangers and the odd curveball that somehow makes perfect sense in the moment. Joyful, a touch chaotic in the best way, and you never quite know what’s going to happen next.

He’s played everywhere from Glastonbury to late-night basements and boutique festivals, bringing an open-minded, genre-fluid style that doesn’t take itself too seriously but always brings people together. The Black Light Disco Show returns with  another essential session of Monday-busting vibes and good music. 

This week it’s the turn of our super cool residents Pookie Knights, who have put together a show in tribute to the music and influence of Stephen Richards, who was sadly taken from us in November. Stephen was instrumental in bringing all of us at Black Light Disco together, with his show Disco Daze acting as the connective tissue we all shared. Pookie Knights have  a long association with the show, being one of the first artists to feature a guest mix on DiscoDaze way back in June 2018 and then seeing several of their releases previewed on air.  The boys’ show features some of their favourite Stephen Richards tracks and a re-run of their DiscoDaze guest mix from 9th April 2021.

It’s WEEK 29 of The Disco Waltons Mix Sessions — and back on deck is the Merseyside marvel himself, Ste Hendry, aka Esteban.

Straight outta Liverpool, Esteban is a wordsmith, a curator, a full-blown vibe engineer. He’s been at this for over 31 years, catching the bug during the wild acid-house days of the late ’80s. back when the clubs were heaving, the jeans were ginormous, and if you didn’t lose at least one mate in the strobe light… was it even a night out?

Rooted deeply in disco and electronica, Esteban’s heart beats to those early Chicago and Detroit house cuts that slipped into UK dancefloors back when vinyl weighed more than a wee baw-baws. By the early ’90s he’d made the hop-be-bop from dancefloor to DJ booth, taking on residencies and guest slots all across the North West, from sticky-floored basements to nights where the smoke machine had absolutely no chill. pstpssssp…

These days, he’s best known as the founder and resident DJ of Black Light Disco — that glowing beacon of funky, house, and disco-drenched goodness. Whether on radio or smashing gigs across the UK and his second home here in itty-bitty Ireland, Esteban always brings pure feel-good mischief.

Hailing from Scotland, Goz has been DJ’ing for over 25 years and in that time has embraced a number of genres from house, hip hop and soul to disco and funk. In the early 1990s he was introduced to the art of mixing vinyl records and from that point forwards, Goz immersed himself in the art of beat matching and building sets - crafting his unique style throughout the 1990s where he would play local parties and get-togethers and, of course  - the all-important pre and post-night out shenanigans.  

After taking a break from DJ’ing in the early 2000s, Goz picked up the reins once again in 2014 and got back to doing what he loves most. Goz has always had an exceptionally diverse taste in music, although he naturally gravitated towards disco, soul, funk and hip-hop genres. 

Goz’s passion for music shines through in his sets, which are carefully curated and crafted to take you on a journey that always leaves you craving more. As one of the most renowned specialists in slow-mo and laid back grooves, when Goz decides to drop down the gears he creates a ‘soundscape’ experience few DJs on the scene can achieve. Similarly, when the disco juices are flowing, and the BPM is cranked up it’s a roller coaster ride and swirling haze of funky basslines, heavenly string arrangements, Afro beats and soulful smokiness. 

As host / show runner of the hugely successful Spin City which airs on New York’s number one House Music Station, www.myhouseradio.fm for a number of years now, Goz has built an extensive and strong follower base who regularly tune in to the two hour show which airs every Sunday at 7pm GMT (2pm NYC). The format of Spin City is a certified winner - with Goz normally presenting the first hour of the show followed by a special guest mix each week. On occasion, Goz will take the whole two hours to treat listeners to prime selections of new, old and classic tracks.  Some of the biggest names on the disco and nu-disco scene have appeared on the show, which has also secured talents such as John Le Visiteur, IMFROMULL, DJ Wahine and Queen & Disco for bi-monthly and quarterly residency spots. Goz also has a keen eye for up-and-coming DJs and producers - spotting undiscovered talent early and giving them a platform to showcase their skills.

During the summer of 2019, Goz teamed up with a group of like-minded DJs and producers to form a new promotion - Black Light Disco. The first Black Light Disco event in June 2019 was an enormous success and has gone on to land its own radio show which also airs on MyHouse Radio FM every Monday from 7pm - 9pm GMT (2pm - 4pm NYC). Since the show started in January 2020, its reputation has grown considerably and BLD now attracts some of the biggest names on the disco and nu-disco scene for guest spots. In May 2020, Black Light Disco formed a partnership with the excellent Samosa Records and Daje Funk Records to present a monthly residency on the MyHouse Radio platform, with label head honchos Les Inferno and De Gama taking over the show for the whole two hours. Airing on the second Monday of each month, The Samosa Funk show is already taking the disco world by storm -the partnership with BLD really taking things to the next level for the promotion. Going forward, Black Light Disco has a number of live events planned, so watch this space for the most up-to-date news on where one of Black Light Disco’s now famous nights will drop next!
