Paddy Hanna releases his debut solo single ‘Join The Army’ today, August 14th, as a free download via Soundcloud and Bandcamp.

‘Join The Army’ is the first single to be taken from Paddy’s debut solo album, which will be released later this year.

Paddy, as singer and guitarist of Grand Pocket Orchestra and a member of the Popical Island collective, has written and performed on nine albums, ten EPs and over nineteen compilation and single releases to date, but this is the first release under his own name.

“I started off as a solo act, my bit was to stamp my foot while yelping and playing harmonica. The first proper gig I played was called an embarrassment for the reasons mentioned above. I've returned to the solo fold to make up for that.” - Paddy Hanna

‘Join The Army’ was recorded live in the Popical Island HQ as part of a 3-day album session in June after months of rehearsals with a full band including Mark Chester (recording/producing, guitar, keys) Bobby Aherne (bass) and Enda Canavan (drums).

Accompanying the free download of the single is a second track, ‘Barry White’ from the upcoming album, details of which will be announced soon.
 
Paddy will also play his first gig with the full band at Electric Picnic on Sunday, August 2nd on the Body & Soul Earthship stage, with further gigs over the coming months.
